My 2019 Reading Challenge | Books 41-45

One Day In Winter – 5/5

I was gifted a copy of this novel by Aria Fiction for the purpose of review. You can read my blog post about the book here. As you might have been able to guess from the title, this book is set one day in winter. Featuring a variety of different characters who are all somehow intertwined, the book tells their stories somehow in such a short time frame but in so much detail.

The characters were written really well – there were certain characters that you were meant to find despicable/frustrating and others you were meant to like. There was the odd character I was also indifferent too also but I think that may have been intentional on the part of the author.

The conclusion of the book was heartwarming yet sad yet affirming. Some characters seemed to get a second chance at life which was great whereas those who walked all over others did not get as much redemption. I am intrigued to know what happened with Lila, I predict a downfall for her that isn’t as pretty as she is.

The Unmumsy Mums: A Collection of Your Hysterical Stories from the Frontline of Parenting – 3/5

I picked this up for free on the Kindle store. I obviously know who the Unmumsy Mum is but hadn’t read any of her books. There were some humourous parenting stories but it was a really short read – you can see why it was being offered up for free. You can download the book for free here.{affiliate link}

The Truro Murders: The Sex Killing Spree Through the Eyes of an Accomplice by Ryan Green – 4/5

This was also a Kindle freebie. I love reading true crime books and watching true crime documentaries so was intrigued by this book. Ryan Green is a UK true crime writer who does something a little different – he writes it from the point of view of one of the perpetrators. I hadn’t heard about this case before but this was an interesting read. You can download the book for free here. {affiliate link}

Wicked Children: Murderous Tales from History by Karen Maitland – 1/5

I know you should never expect much from a Kindle freebie – although there are some gems out there – but this was just… woeful. The book was so short – the latter pages basically promoted her books instead and she found a way to promote her books within the content of the book. There was some interesting information but it was overshadowed by her blatant self promotion.

Destination Instagram: Five Incredible Experiences for Mobile Photography by Blake Smith – 2/5

Yep, it’s another Kindle freebie – and another that just didn’t interest me that much. As an Instagram lover and someone who is keen on travelling, I was hoping to find out about some fab places for Instagram photography. Unfortunately, the author mentioned many places that the majority of people would already know about rather than places that were a little bit more obscure plus this would be easy content to find on the web without the need to download a book.

Overall, my reading week has been rather up and down, don’t you think? I’ve got quite a few Kindle freebies still to read – here’s hoping I have better luck with those than I did with the majority of these!
