I was sent some of the books via Aria Fiction/Netgalley for the purpose of review. This post contains affiliate links.
Yep, it is time again for another reading roundup – I’ve been in a real reading mood recently so am here with books 26 to 30. You can read my other posts here: Books 1-5, Books 6-10, Books 11-15, Books 16-20 and Books 21-25.
The Girl I Used To Know by Faith Hogan – 5/5
I was gifted a copy of this novel by Aria Fiction for the purpose of review. You will find my full review up next week but I have to say – I loved this. The book tells the tale of two different women; women who have dulled their light for men and suffered massive betrayals. I really loved the characters of Tess and Amanda, especially Tess, and will definitely be checking out more of the authors work. You can buy the book on Amazon here {affiliate link}.
The Bad Place by M.K Hill – 5/5
I was gifted a copy of this book via Netgalley for the purpose of review. Told over two timelines, this book is the start of a series and one I will definitely be continuing on with.
26 year ago, six children went missing and were held captive for two weeks. Only five made it out alive. Why did one not make it?
In the present day, it seems kids are going missing again and they all seem to have a connection to the original case. Will the police be able to find the culprit before it is too late?
This was a gripping read with many twists and turns and every time I thought I’d guessed the outcome, I was thwarted. The outcome makes sense but it would never have been one I’d have thought of. A sign of a good read for sure.
This is my first time reading something by this author and I can’t wait to read more of their work. You can buy the book on Amazon here {affiliate link}.
Daddy’s Girls by Sarah Flint – 4/5
I was gifted a copy of this book via Netgalley for the purpose of review. This was my first introduction to the author and I will definitely be checking out more of their work. There is a burglar going around terrorising elderly people but it all changes when he progresses to murder.
There’s also Thomas and his daughter Emma. It has been a year since his wife’s death and he has been struggling all year, nothing like he used to be. He has descended into trouble and Emma is desperate to help him out of it. Despite the fact that you aren’t meant to like Thomas, especially because of horrid things he does in the novel, I couldn’t help but feel sympathetic towards him – he was lost and in being so lost, he pushed away his only child.
The police were great characters and I would love to see more from them. I loved the reveal though, a fitting end to the whole saga – until we end on a cliffhanger for a further book which had me gripped. You can buy the book on Amazon here {affiliate link}.
What A Time To Be Alone: The Slumflower’s Guide To Why You Are Already Enough by Chidera Eggerue – 5/5
I fancied a little bit of non-fiction and what better than a book designed to make us feel good about ourselves? I’d seen The Slumflower on Instagram but didn’t know much about her so this was an interesting read although you didn’t find out too much about her. I enjoyed the idioms in Igbo and appreciated the reminder that we need to love enough, that we don’t need to hold onto toxic friendships and we don’t have to feel unappreciated – we can take steps to feel happy. You can buy the book on Amazon here {affiliate link}.
Scribble Yourself Feminist by Chidera Eggerue – 4/5
Following on from the previous book, I thought I’d check out some more of The Slumflower’s work. This journal is a fairly quick read with fantastic reminders and space to jot down notes, colour pages in, rewrite some classics and much more. I will be definitely be referring back to this. You can buy the book on Amazon here {affiliate link}.
What have you been reading lately?

These sound great – I’m looking for some books for summer reading. The Scribble Yourself Feminist one sounds right up my alley! Thanks for posting!
I love to read and keep promising myself that I’ll give myself more time to do it. I can only read one book at a time, The Bad Place sounds like a book my son and I might both enjoy.
I really wish I had more time to be able to read. I struggle so much to switch off and focus xxx
I love to read too but I haven’t actually read any of those. I like the sound of the Slumflower one, it is so important to invest in ourselves. Mich x
I like the idea of the journal. I should buy this and make time to write it in every day.
I love non fiction books and what a time to be alone sounds right up my street. I’m so impressed with how much reading you get done x
Lots of great holiday reading ideas there, thank you x
I am after some new books to read so will check these out – thank you
I never find the time to read these days, sad really as it’s one of my favourite things to do.
