I love my young granddaughter setting up the Nativity scene so very carefully as my late Mother made all the figurines for the stable. It is a beautiful display and reminds us of the true meaning of Christmas.
No elf on the shelf here, but we do have advent stockings with a pocket for each day on the front that the kids get a little treat in. Then in Christmas Eve we leave the stockings out for Father Christmas to fill with goodies x

I do love an advent calender especially a glittery one though I doubt I will find one of those this year
Christmas Cake. Its one of the first things my mother taught me how to bake and it became a family tradition that I make the Christmas Cake in September every year and drizzle it with brandy on the run up to Christmas. So coupled with being a family tradition, making fruit cakes also invokes lovely childhood memories of times spent with my mum.

The day we put up the decorations, (usually around the 1st December), we always buy a bottle of Baileys & have some in our coffees. The problem is, by the time Christmas comes we have bought (& drunk) like 5 bottles already!!

decorating the tree while listening to christmas songs always signals the start of christmas in our house.
We start with Sinterklaas and the giving of chocolate letters at the beginning of December, followed by lots of baking of festive treats, including stained glass tree decorations whilst listening and dancing to plenty of Christmas tunes with the kids.
The Christmas tree and decorations go up on November 28th which was my late mums birthday.. Christmas was her favourite time of year, so we start celebrations early…

I love visiting Birmingham Christmas markets. We usually go mid-December and stay overnight.

My husband was a Forester so each year our pre Christmas family tradition is to gather chestnuts for chestnut stuffing – our boys now over 50 still remember as toddlers gathering chestnuts.
I do love having an Advent Calendar but my favourite tradition is probably our family walk on the beach at Christmas Eve followed by a snuggly film on the sofa.

We always put our decorations up on the first Saturday of December, have our advent calendars and do elf on the shelf. Then our Christmas eve boxes and treats for Santa and reindeer 🙂
We always go shopping as a family for the perfect Christmas Jumpers for our annual Christmas Jumper Photo, its always so much fun! We have quite the collection of Festive photos and Jumpers now, its been a family tradition for years!

Always buying advent calendars for the children, even though half are adults, they still look for them
We start with Christmas music and movies. Then we make the house smell of Christmas with candles and baking. Mince pies, cakes, breads and chutneys. Then it’s off to a garland making class with friends, mulled wine. Once this is done the decorations can go up including our 3 Tomtee/christmas gnome villages.
Then on Chrismas eve we will watch a Christmas movie at the cinema, this year this will be a Chrismas movie at home.
We wrap up christmas DVDs and open one most days and watch them as a family.
We had an Elf on the shelf for the first time last year. Brilliant fun! So it’s become my favourite.

I try to get all of my Christmas shopping done by the end of November. I’m normally away at my parents’ for Christmas but will still decorate the living room with a tree and my collection of nutcracker figurines.

Advent calendars have always been the BEST thing about Christmas. I have some picture ones that come out every year, one from when I was a child and some Nativity ones from church. I am eyeing up the Lindor ones for my daughter and I. And I have a ‘jigsaw’ one for my friend, you get a few pieces every day then by Christmas you have the full picture. Advent calendars are definitely our favourite Christmas tradition!

My stepson and I have this tradition of watching Meppet’s Christmas Carol every Saturday and Sunday in November and December. Its amazing.

Advent calendars choc for my daughter and non choc for me (I’m diabetic so prefer a beauty/scent/different type of daily treat), visits to Santa and Xmas markets and then I give my daughter her pressies from Mummy on Xmas Eve…New PJs, book, a film and lots of treats before the big day and the visit from Mr Clause.

My favourite tradition is on December 1st, to get out all the decorations, put on some Christmas music and put the decs up. We then curl up on the sofa, with the mug of hot chocolate (with all the trimmings of course – mini marshmallows, lots of whipped cream and some more mini marshmallows and grated salted caramel chocolate), and pop on The Polar Express.
We’re debating on bringing it forward to the 1st of November this year, to boost our spirits a bit!

We have lots of traditions, from baking cakes and making gingerbread houses to making our own Christmas tree decorations! Watching movies together and going for walks with my parents and sibling families. My boy is bit older now and understands more so we will be doing advent calendar this year and elf on the shelf too! Winter is my favourite season and also my son was born in December so it’s a very special month for our family!

We have a Nativity calendar no chocolate or plastic toys ones. All the kids have a Nativity candle which I light each day, we bake and make gifts I read them the Christmas story. The kids make their Christmas decs and we always have a mini Christmas dinner on Christmas eve ( Before the big meal) We go to a children’s service at church on Christmas eve and we always leave Santa mice pies and a glass of milk and carrots for his helpers . However, it’s been a sad year for us this year so not sure how much we will do this year.

My favourite tradition that our family have in the run up to Christmas is our storybook advent, we get a book a day and the kids take it in turns to each open it, they really look forward to it and we read the story before bedtime in my bed together. It helps us all relax and it’s lovely having that quality time with them x
