When it comes to cereals, we like to be as healthy as we can in our household. That isn’t to say we don’t occasionally indulge in a chocolatey cereal every now and again but when I was asked if we would like to try Weetabix Protein, I thought it would be great to see just what makes these different from the original Weetabix biscuits.
Of course, the big clue is in the name. The Weetabix Protein Big Biscuits are high in protein, high in fibre and contain iron and vitamins. Now I always eat the normal Weetabix biscuits so I was intrigued to see what these would be like. Being on Slimming World I checked to see if these would be my HexB option (they’re not) so I handed the reins over to Steve and my Dad to see what they were like – after trying a couple, of course!
The Big Biscuit variety is not the only product available in the Weetabix Protein range, there are also the Protein Crunch original and Protein Crunch chocolate which sound very interesting!
So what did the men in my life think of these? With the claims that ‘Weetabix Protein is not only high in wheat protein but contains all the goodness of traditional Weetabix cereal – High in fibre, low in sugar, salt and fat and fortified with Iron and vitamins, with a serving of Weetabix Protein with milk (40g portion with 135ml semi-skimmed milk) containing 12g of protein compared to 6g from a large egg’ ringing in their ears, they were more than happy to trial them. Whilst I only tried 2 biscuits myself, I split the rest of the packet between them – my Dad loves when I send my Mum home with things for him to try – and let them feedback their thoughts to me.
It seems that taste wise, there doesn’t seem to be any difference from the normal Weetabix biscuits and it doesn’t seem to have made them feel any fuller. They did feel good knowing they were getting a lot of protein and fibre in though which is always a benefit.
I am unsure if I will pick these up again as we are quite happy with our usual Weetabix biscuits but if you are looking to get more protein in your diet, perhaps Weetabix Protein are the ones for you. They cost £2.99 and are currently available in Waitrose.
