With so much going on every week, it’s nice to just relax at home when we have free time. Going out is great for an evening, but there’s nothing better than relaxing in the comfort of your own home on a pleasant afternoon. If you’re looking for some great home activities to keep you busy, here are a few that I enjoy.

Puzzles

Puzzles are timeless activities that are not only fun but keep your mind sharp and constantly working. They are fun, very cheap to buy and often just a great relaxing activity to enjoy by yourself or with your friends.

 Logic Puzzles

One of my favorites is the logic-driven puzzle called Sudoku. You may be familiar with it as it has been around for some time. Sudokus are logic-based puzzles that involve number placement on a grid formation. While they might not seem like much when you get started, believe me, they can quickly become very engrossing. Recently someone has even been able to find a solution to a so-called “Miracle Sudoku” showing that there truly are many levels of difficulty to attempt once you get the hang of it!

 Word Puzzles

Another classic is the word puzzle pads that you can get at any hobby store. Think of crosswords or word search type of puzzles. These are a lot of fun and help you expand your vocabulary. You can find crosswords in your daily newspaper or online and enjoy finding the solution.

 Jigsaw Puzzles

For those rainy days or winter months, jigsaw puzzles may be the ultimate pastime. What could be better than staying cozy indoors and putting together these marvels? The sense of accomplishment when you finish a 1000 piece puzzle is priceless. You can find many different types to suit your mood as well. From animals and nature to famous buildings and cities, there are many different kinds you can find online.

Creating Models

Models are fantastic for people that enjoy working with their hands and building something. Instead of vegetating on the couch, building models gets your mind and hands working to create something new. Not only that, but there is a lot you can learn about the world by putting models together. The typical examples are things like airplanes and trains, but there are many more models to consider once you start looking into it.

You can build incredible replicas of the solar system for instance, and learn about our planets in the process. There are also figures and models of the human body and skeletal system. You don’t need to buy pre-packaged models online either. If you’re feeling creative, you can get some raw supplies and build whatever your heart desires. After you’re finished, you’ll find that these make great decorations for your home or office.

Feng Shui Your Home

Making liberal use of the term, I’m advocating for reorganizing your home to breathe some new life into your surroundings. There is a certain joy to moving all of the furniture around and making a room into something new. After spending so much time at home, this is the best way to bring in some new energy. If you feel like taking it a step further, painting your living room or bedroom with a new color can be a great thing to lift up your mood and spirits.

 Movie Nights

Movie nights with your friends are always great. Bringing everyone together for an evening and watching some classic films from your past is underrated and way better than going out as far as I’m concerned! Films have a way of reminding us of our lives and become reminiscent of a certain time. Take an opportunity to rediscover some of your favorite films.

 Card Games

There are many great card games that are worth playing with some close acquaintances. While games like rummy, go fish and others are enjoyable, the best of all is probably poker. Especially if you have a group over for the evening, poker is a great way to get everyone involved. Once the game starts, the conversation will flow, as will the hours that you spend together. There are many great activities to enjoy right in your own home.
