I have mentioned plenty of times that education is a big thing for me and I am keen to help my kids with their education in any which way. Olivia attends Phonics classes, Jack does extra-curricular activities and I am always looking for new apps, games and resources to help them with their learning. With our kids all learning from home right now, it is important to keep learning as fresh and exciting as possible.
We were recently sent a variety of items from Learning Resources to review. What did we think of them?
LEARNING RESOURCES DISCOVERY ACORNS
These wonderful acorns are designed for ages 3-7 and are perfect for little hands. Young children are drawn to containers and seeing what is inside. These are perfect for hiding everyday items and also help with games such as hide and seek and memory. There are ten acorns with corresponding green or orange lids.
Each acorn has has a woodland animal’s silhouette on it also and the acorns come with a guide to suggest certain activities. Olivia has had great fun putting stuff in these and taking them out again and playing multiple games with them. They currently retail at £12 and are available on the Learning Resources website.
GEOSAFARI VEGA 360 TELESCOPE
For ages 8-12, Jack (and Steve!) were very excited to see this included in the bundle of products we were sent. The telescope comes in a colourful box and contains three boxes within. It takes a short while to put together and comes with a couple of different eyepieces to achieve different magnifications.
The telescope is extremely light and it is portable which makes it great for taking with you to seek out different things to look at. It also comes with a handy tabletop tripod with an easy to use mount meaning you can watch with ease. We decided to use this the night you could potentially see both the Space Station and the recently launched rocket and whilst we didn’t manage to see the rocket as the rocket was too low on the horizon, Jack loved seeing the Space Station and also taking a look at the craters on the moon!
I can definitely see us getting plenty of use out of this – as I mentioned, Jack absolutely adores space and loves nothing more than looking at the stars! The telescope retails at £48 and is available on the Learning Resources website.
GEOSAFARI JR. MIGHTY MAGNIFIER
This magnifier is designed for ages 4-8 and is colourful in design. These magnifier glasses are perfect for heading out in the garden and getting closer to nature. You can flip between 2x and 8x magnification to get a real close up look and the headset is adjustable and hinged which means children can use it hands-free.
The soft double eyecup makes it super comfortable on the eyes whilst in use and there is even a built in LED light for night viewing. This does require 2xAAA batteries which aren’t included.
The kids have loved using this during both the daytime and nighttime, taking a look at the nature that is surrounding us. The magnifier is available for £14 on the Learning resources website.
GEOSAFARI JR. MY FIRST MICROSCOPE
As well as space, Jack adores science and can’t wait until he is older and gets to look at things properly in science lessons. This is designed for ages 3-7 and is perfect for little hands, thanks to its chunky design.
It is easy to use and has two eyepieces which means you don’t have to close one eye to use it and it includes a knob for focusing. You can achieve up to 8x magnification and the LED light helps to enhance viewing.
The microscope requires 3xAAA batteries which aren’t included and the kids have been happily using this around the garden, getting up close and personal with miniscule items they find. The microscope is available on the Learning Resources website for £20.
GEOSAFARI JR. BUG VIEWER JAR
Jack has had a bug viewer jar in the past and adored it but unfortunately it got broken. When he saw this included, he was very happy and couldn’t wait to be collecting some bugs in it to observe.
The bug viewer jar is perfect for ages 4-8 and Jack has been going in and out of the garden all the time ever since it arrived to see what different bugs he could collect and view.
The lid is magnified and it magnifies at 3x magnification. It features air-holes and a measuring grid and is the perfect size for little hands.
Jack loved that it came with a plastic toy spider at the bottom – such a nice touch and made his day. So far, he’s had a spider and a few different beetles in there. He loves seeing what differences they all have! The bug viewer jar is available for £4 from the Learning Resources website.
We’ve been loving getting outdoors with these items and think they are a great addition to a child’s education – it is so important for kids to be aware of nature and the world going on around them. Jack has actually been set home learning from his school this week to spot different types of birds and his telescope is going to come in incredibly handy for that!

The telescope is such a great way to get children interested in astronomy. I used to have a friend who had one back in uni, and I can’t remember the number of late nights spent on his balcony, looking at the moon and at the stars.
What some awesome items, I can imagine you will have fun with it all, but I’m sure the telescope will come out often when fun things are due to be spotted in the night sky.
How great are these, this is the sort of thing mine would have loved when they were younger, I know the bug kit would have been top of the list with them they all had a fascination for bugs and creepy crawlies x

These resources look fab – ideal for keeping learning fun, and that’s even more important right now!
My two are in secondary school so we don’t do outdoor learning activities anymore as such. I’m trying to train them in the useful arts of weeding and grass cutting! I do like the look of the telescope though. I’d fancy playing with that one myself.

We are massive fans of learning resources, we use lots of their range at the pre-school where I work too
We are already huge fans of Learning resources as they have such a great range of educational fun toys and this election you guys have looks amazing too! My son really wants a telescope so will go check this one out and I know my daughter would have great fun with the acorns too!
