Wednesday was a big day for Olivia. We headed into Jack’s school for the morning, into the nursery section, for Olivia’s nursery tour. With a few other parents and some other children, Olivia couldn’t wait to visit and see what nursery was all about. I talked about the time Jack went for his tour there too.
I documented Jack’s first day at pre-school and Jack’s first day at nursery – Olivia hasn’t actually gone to pre-school and providing she gets in, will be going straight to the nursery. It is the same one Jack attended but some of the staff has changed since Jack was there and also they have changed the building they are in too.
We arrived and signed in and were guided through the door to the school building where the business manager stood and discussed funding with us all. Of course we will all be entitled to 15 free hours but some will be entitled to the 30 hours and the business manager also mentioned lunch club.
After this, we were taken round to the classroom and shown the classroom and the playground. We were able to spend some time in the playground – Olivia had great fun in the sandpit and didn’t want to get out. She also loved the Wendy House! In the classroom, she was excited to see the different sections available and liked seeing what the older children were up to. She even managed to become pals with one of the girls that was there!
She really did not want to leave, she wanted to stay for the day and didn’t seem to realise we were only popping in for a look round. I’ve already submitted the application for her to join in September and I am optimistic that she will get in due to Jack already being at the school and Steve working there.
Now to decide whether to do mornings (which does mean giving up her various classes and playgroups including Phonics) or afternoons which might be more difficult. So many things to think about! She’s been looking so grown up recently but on the day of the tour, she looked so little – I’m so ready for her to go and she is so desperate to go but I am also a little sad about her heading off without me! Is this normal?

That’s great she had a good time, it should make the transition for her easier. I loved spending time with my kids so I understand why you might feel a little sad about her going but think of all you’ll have to talk about.
Think it is quite normal I’m a nana but looked after my grandson a lot and even I felt like this myself .
It always feels like such a jump in them growing up when they are preparing to start nursery – I’m sure that she will love it
Ah yes I definitely agree it can be a confusing time as a Mama, your ready for that bit of space, they’re ready for the next adventure, yet you still wish they would stay small and with you forever at the same time x

its normal alright , letting go of any of your kids for any length of time no matter what age is hard for any parent
I always remember mine running and going off and playing forgetting to even say bye bye mummy
It’s completely normal my children attend a private nursery as I am a nursery practitioner and they love it it has gave them loads of independence and helped them learn so much. My son used to do afternoons so I didn’t have to give up his morning toddler classes however now my daughter’s do full days they go for visits to the local parks, library’s and have sports events each week so they don’t miss out.
What an encouraging start. I recall feeling a tiny bit disappointed when mine didn’t want to come home.

My boy Charlie 3 loves nursery he really enjoys it , good your little one loved it too
Good luck, I hope she gets in! One of my sons never wanted to leave nursery and the other one never wanted to go. I definitely prefer them not wanting to leave.
