Jack’s First Day At Pre-School

Today was the big day. Today was the day Jack went to pre-school for the first time and I must admit, I did lay awake last night worrying about everything. What if he didn’t like it? Sure, he liked it enough on the open day but Steve and I were there – we would be leaving him this time.

After laying awake most of the night, I had my alarm set early so that I could get up and double check everything was ready. As I’m writing this, I’ve realised I have yet more forms to fill in – it never ends! Once all sorted and Jack had demolished his breakfast, Steve and I took him down for his first day.

Since they only opened today, there aren’t many other children currently enrolled but there are a few. Whilst we sat filling in paperwork, Jack gladly went off to do some activities and only came back over to kiss us goodbye as we left.

Coming home to a quiet house was incredibly weird. With Steve being on nights and heading up to bed, I busied myself with some housework and didn’t check the time for ages – until I realised I had ten minutes before I had to leave to pick Jack up. As I arrived, I could hear them all singing together and Jack yelling ‘Let’s do that again!’ and giggling, he really sounded like he was enjoying himself.

Apparently he had been perfect all day. Did as he was told, had his snacks and drink nicely and was very helpful in putting things away for another little girl – basically a little angel (and completely opposite to how he has been at home recently – terrible twos are nothing in comparison to terrible three’s!). Jack gave me a handful of things he had made – two paint pictures of his hands and he had also tried to write his name – he is getting better and better at this as he keeps practicing, even if we don’t ask him to!

All in all, he had a great day and really enjoyed himself. He can’t wait to go back again tomorrow and was so exhausted today when bedtime rolled around. It is going to be a little weird without my partner in crime at home with me during the day but I’m sure I will get used to it – and being a WAHM, this may just benefit me.

Now to start getting the uniform for nursery in September… when did my little boy grow up so much?
