What Are The Benefits Of Eating Porridge Oats For Breakfast?
Collaborative Post
Porridge is a breakfast I have always enjoyed, especially during the winter months. It is a breakfast that can be put together in a matter of minutes and is often more satisfying than other breakfast foods. Healthy, delicious and fulfilling, it keeps us full much longer than other breakfast foods do.
But what are the benefits of eating porridge oats for breakfast? There are many! There are health benefits as well as being super satisfying and super versatile.
They Are Filling
If you want a delicious yet satisfying breakfast, then porridge oats are the perfect choice. They are nutrient dense and contain soluble fibres which reduce glucose absorption and increase the time it takes for you to digest the food. Porridge oats are also protein packed and full of fibre which help to keep you super full. I love nothing more than a bowl of Mornflake porridge in the morning!
You Can Have Many Different Toppings
The great thing about porridge is the variety of different toppings you can have. You can attempt to get some of your five a day in with plenty of fruit on top or you could use a little honey or maple syrup. The possibilities are endless but the fact that you can use many different toppings means you will never get bored.
They Can Help With A Number of Conditions
Oats can help prevent cardiovascular disease due to the antioxidants present in them. They can also control blood sugar levels and even prevent constipation. They are definitely a good choice if you have or are at risk of any of these conditions.

They Help Support Weight Loss
Due to the fact that oats are digested slower than other foods (thus keeping you full for longer), your cravings for food are reduced and you are less likely to snack. This means you may lose some weight which, if you are trying to, is great!
It Can Give You An Immune Boost
If you are looking for an immune boost, you can’t go wrong with a bowl of oats. Porridge is packed full of Vitamin A. This vitamin helps the body to fight off free radicals. It also contains beta-glucans – these help keep it strong and can actually make the way your immune system responds smarter! This is great – we all want to eat food that boosts our immune systems.
Did You Know?
Porridge oats are also perfect for night time too. Oats contain melatonin and some complex carbohydrates which actually help relax you and help you sleep! So next time you feel a little peckish and can’t get to sleep, why not consider a bowl of oats?
If you are looking for a delicious and versatile breakfast food, then you can’t go wrong with a bowl of porridge. Do you eat porridge for breakfast? What are your favourite toppings to have on yours? I alternate between some delicious fruit and also some golden syrup or maple syrup for days when I want something a little sweeter.
