The Airfield Brewers Fayre, Hatfield

We were recently given the opportunity to try out the Daytime Value menu at our local Brewers Fayre. For us, that was the Airfield in Hatfield. A short drive away, we were excited to see what the restaurant was like, never having visited that specific restaurant before. We arrived a few minutes late as Jack had fallen asleep in the car and we had to wake him up to go into the restaurant. The restaurant staff were great about this, really friendly and quickly showed us to our seats.

Our server brought over an activity pack for Jack which we were really grateful for as he can sometimes get very restless and asked us if we would like any beverages. We opted to order the drinks with our food so we could really peruse over the menu and the extensive list of drinks available. Once decided, I took the menu up to the bar and ordered our starters & mains plus our drinks. We knew we would probably have dessert but wanted to hold off until the end of our mains to see which one we fancied.

Our drinks were poured up as we ordered and were ready for me to take over to the table as the order was placed. Both Steve and I ordered refillable soft drinks (which Steve definitely took advantage of) whilst Jack chose a raspberry slushie type thing.

For our starters, both Steve and I ordered from the Daytime Value menu, getting both for £2.50 which is an amazing price when one alone cost £2.59 and the other £3. Jack did not have a starter but he took great delight in stealing some of ours. I opted for the garlic & parsley breaded mushrooms which were divine – I hadn’t had garlic mushrooms for a while so these were a real treat – and Steve chose the tomato soup. As you can see in the pictures below, they are incredibly generous with their starters – amazing when you consider how affordable they are! They were delivered to us very quickly – we were so engrossed in helping Jack with his crossword that we didn’t notice the waitress straight away!

After checking on us to see if everything was okay with our starters, the waitress quickly appeared to clear away our plates and bring out our mains. Jack chose the pizza with garlic bread. He didn’t want any of the toppings listed, just cheese and they were happy to oblige. I chose the Smothered Chicken whilst Steve opted for the Brewers Fayre burger. We again chose from the Daytime Value menu and got the two meals for £10.99. Since both meals are over £9 each on their own, this option on the menu is fantastic and really handy for those on a tight budget.

I usually opt for fish and chips when out and eating from a specific menu but I couldn’t resist trying the smothered chicken. It was absolutely delicious and I ate it all, feeling sure that I would have no room for dessert. Jack’s pizza was the perfect size for him as was the garlic bread and I really appreciated that they had kept the salad separate from them as Jack can be very fussy when it comes to salad.

I always knew Steve would opt for a burger so it was no surprise when he chose the Brewer’s Fayre burger. Steve said it tasted good and he really liked the coleslaw and chips too – he can be really fussy about both of these food items (wonder where Jack gets it from?) so this is a real compliment.

The waitress offered us condiments when she brought the mains over and she very kindly put the ketchup that we had asked for in a little pot each so we all had our own. It is little touches like that which I really appreciate as they’re so simple but can help so much if you have fussy eaters who don’t want you to dip your food in ‘their’ sauce..

Again, she checked everything was okay with our mains and once we had finished, cleared them away before checking if we needed any more refills and leaving us to browse the dessert menu. Steve and I veered off the Daytime Value menu here. I did choose something that was on the 2 for £2.50 menu in the end (but I was looking at a few others before I made my final choice which weren’t on said menu) and Steve found that nothing on that menu took his fancy. I ordered the Caramel Apple Betty with custard, Steve the treacle tart with custard and Jack chose some doughnuts.

I always find that dessert is my favourite part of a meal and this didn’t disappoint. I had already thoroughly enjoyed my meal thus far and my dessert made it even more enjoyable. Steve looked happy to finally have a treacle tart after so long and Jack just liked adding sprinkles to his doughnut – he had a lot of fun doing that, I tell you!

Overall I was very impressed with my local Brewers Fayre.  They offer some fantastic meals which are not only great quality but super affordable. They even offer menus such as the Daytime Value menu which make already affordable meals even cheaper. Two starters for £2.50, two mains for £10.99 and two desserts for £2.50. What’s not to love?

The staff that we dealt with were also fantastic, super efficient and really considerate of Jack, spending time talking to him and involving him in our conversations. The food was served promptly and tasted great and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Brewers Fayre to anyone. We are already talking of going back with our parents at some point – you can’t beat a family meal there at such affordable prices.

We were kindly gifted £50 in vouchers to try out the menu.

  9. We don’t have a brewers fayre local to us, but your pictures are great and the food looks delicious.
