Since Jack was born, I haven’t spent more than about twelve hours away from him. I’ve been on nights out, had an operation, been to work but always been back with him within 24 hours. This Friday I am going to Paris until Sunday evening and it is my first time away from him for that long. It is going to be really strange not seeing his little face in the morning and evening and I’m not sure how it is going to feel.
I know I am going to really enjoy myself with my friend Kaye and it will be nice to be able to relax and not worry about my motherly duties for a couple of days. There was no chance of me not going – my in laws insisted it was a fantastic opportunity that I had to take and they would look after Jack when Steve was at work (Steve needs to renew his passport and wouldn’t have been able to book the time off in time). I am lucky to have such supportive parents and in laws who realise how great this opportunity is, especially my mother in law who has been so supportive and always bigs me up even if I don’t feel I deserve it.
I need to sort out going abroad with my call provider today so that I don’t get charged the earth – just so I can hear my little boys voice before he goes to bed. This is such a strange feeling and I know plenty of parents have done it before and Jack is nearly 4, a lot of my friends with younger children have had at least one night away from their child. Steve went away last year for a few days and he thinks I am being silly but I don’t think I am, am I? I’ve spent the last two years since being made redundant (and working from home) with him. It is going to be strange being apart from him, really really strange. But I’m ready for an amazing weekend with one of my greatest friends, I think it will do me good.

I know it’s hard, but you know Jack will be fine. Paris is only a few hours away really if god forbid you needed to get home and you will have a lovely story to tell Jack when you get home. Have fun x

I have been away from my little one twice, each time for just over 24 hours and I rely on picture messages and FaceTime to keep in touch with her and make sure she’s OK xxxx
I hope that you have a fantastic time, even though I’m sure you’ll be missing your little one dearly. I’m sure that hearing his voice at the end of the day will be even sweeter after having gone a whole day without hearing it. xx

I hope you have a wonderful time in Paris. I totally get where you are coming from, I have never spent more than a working day away from my daughter – and that was only two days a week for the few months I stuck it out.
I am not sure what I would do if I was away for her for much longer!
