Toddler Time: Jack Update

Toddler Time: Jack Update

Toddlers. Who’d have them? I know it has only been a little while since I did my last update on Jack but he has changed so much in such a short period of time that I just had to share. These seem to be some of my more popular posts too.

He is due his 27 month check up next week, even though he isn’t quite 27 months yet. They will test him on his speech, movement and skills. They’ve sent us out a questionnaire which we have to fill in and he is doing pretty much everything, albeit some of them only occasionally and not all the time. I understand that these forms are there to help distinguish if your child needs help with anything but I can’t help but think they are a scare tactic too. No 27 month old is the same and I was panicking over the one or two things Jack doesn’t do – children develop at their own pace!

Jack’s speech has come on leaps and bounds in the past couple of weeks. He likes to sing songs all the time– his favourites at the moment are Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, the theme tunes to Something Special and Postman Pat and occasionally one of those songs in the middle of CBeebies programmes that the presenters sing!

He is getting better with his alphabet and can recognise certain letters – W being a favourite right now (M is also apparently W!) – and can count to ten and back again down to one. We downloaded some apps to our iPad and these have really aided him in learning alongside us teaching him. He has quite a range of words and some of them include:

As you can see, he is obsessed with the sky and what it contains and also animals, animal sounds and CBeebies characters. He also says ‘kiss’, ‘cuddle’ and ‘love you’ and despite the tantrums sometimes, can be quite loving when he wants to!
He is still a gannet and eats pretty much anything in front of him – he loves his fruit but also likes a chocolate or biscuit treat too!
It amazes me just how much he’s grown. It sounds silly because of course he is going to grow up..but we were looking at baby videos of him yesterday and he has changed so much, my baby is disappearing in front of my very eyes!

Jack: Two Years On

Jack: Two Years On

Can you believe Jack is now 2 years old? It seems like yesterday that I was announcing on here that I was pregnant with him. It is so crazy that he is a walking, talking monster now! Here is a little bit about what we got up to on his birthday…

Present from Auntie Shona
More presents!!
We had a lazy morning/afternoon in, just the three of us then it was time for a yummy carvery dinner with both sets of grandparents. Jack took the opportunity to pose most of the time but he certainly took advantage of all you can eat! Haha

Jack had a really lovely day and I’m glad I managed to get some pictures to show that – whilst I got pictures of his party last year, I didn’t get many on his actual birthday so wanted to rectify that this year. It was also nice to have a relaxed affair compared to last years stress – and Jack really seemed to enjoy it!

Jack | 18 Month Update

Jack | 18 Month Update
My beautiful baby boy is now 18 months old. How did that happen? I’ve been meaning to get this post up all month – by the time this finally goes up, he’ll be nearer 19 months than 18, but ah well. Such is life. I stopped doing monthly updates for a bit because after a year, they seemed rather pointless. I did do a quick 15 month update but life just seems to be passing us by right now!

His curls are crazy – his hair seems to have grown so much since we went to Rome and my heart melts when he walks over to me with his bedhead of gorgeous little curls. He can say a few more words now – although his favourites are no and oh dear. He seems to be rapidly approaching the terrible twos quite quickly now – he has recently become quite aggressive and hits out – something we are keen to address as soon as possible. He loves nothing more than running around; unless he’s tired or upset, he will not come for a cuddle – he is far too active for that. Although when he does, they are the best cuddles in the world!

Even though I was commuting in for Britmums Live so I was seeing him in the morning and the evening, I really missed him for those two days – its no different to when I am at work really, but I truly couldn’t wait to see his cheeky little grin. He runs all over the place and is a very happy and sociable toddler – he loves other babies/toddlers and most animals too. He doesn’t like being told no, but then what child does?

I can’t believe this monster of mine is 18 months old…time to start planning his 2nd birthday party I think!

Jack: 15 Month Update & MAM Perfect soother review

Jack: 15 Month Update & MAM Perfect soother review
This cheeky little monkey is 15 months now, almost 16 months old and definitely thinks he rules the roost! Since I last updated you, he is doing so much – he was only just starting to walk now he almost runs – although he sometimes still wonders what strange things (shoes) are on his feet, watches them whilst walking and trips over! Haha! His personality is really starting to shine through. He can say a few more words now: Mama, Dada, No, Oww, Oh, Yeah Yeah, Hiya. He has a habit recently of telling his Nanny ‘NO!’ everytime she asks him anything though!

He has six teeth now and some more are starting to come through – I truly realise just how quickly he is growing up when he flashes a toothy grin at me! He is really chatty pretty much all the time and loves nothing more than babbling away to a stranger, especially if they’re giving him attention! Behaviour I should probably not encourage for the future! He will eat the majority of things put in front of him, but of course would much prefer to eat Mummy’s food – even if it is the same!

His best friend is his Nanny & Grandad’s labrador, Marley. He will follow Marley wherever he goes, tries to cuddle him all the time and generally fusses all over him when we go round. He loves posing for the camera (see above!) although isn’t much a fan of the flash (who is? see below). He also loves our Ipad Mini – he likes looking at himself when using the camera and sometimes has chats with himself too! Mirrors give the same effect! He has progressed onto cows milk recently and seems to love it; handy because it is so much cheaper than formula!

He has also been trialling out a product for the blog – the MAM Perfect soother 12m+*. We are currently trying to wean him off his dummy in the day, especially now he has teeth, but he still has one at night. He does occasionally use a dummy throughout the day whether when napping or just a little tired and grumpy. However, being the tearaway that he is, dummies & soothers disappear never to be seen again. I have no idea where he hides them but I search high and low for them!

This one seems to be hanging around a lot longer than others do! Designed to reduce the risk of misaligned teeth, this soother has proved to be a very handy tool whilst weaning Jack off other soothers. BPA free and good for the skin thanks to large ventilation holes, this is perfect for Jack when  he is a little grumpy. If given the choice of 2 dummies, he will always end up choosing this one – if he doesn’t pick it out first time, he soon changes his mind!

I’ve always found branded soothers to far exceed the own brand ones you can find at various stores – much more care and attention seems to go into the quality and MAM are a brand we keep coming back to.

What is the one brand of baby product you keep returning to?
If you’re not a mum, what is your failsafe product?

A Futures Update

A Futures Update
Poorly bubba.

If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter, you may have noticed me bemoaning all manners of bugs recently. I have been posting sporadically on the blog these past few weeks (thankfully having scheduled some posts!) due to a mix of loss of blogging mojo and illness befalling anyone that seemed to enter my house! First of all, Steve got struck down, then me and finally Jack which resulted in an evening trip to our local paediatric A&E on Tuesday night (no pancakes for me until yesterday) as his temperature and heart rate were so high. Luckily, he is a lot better now – he even seems to be getting his cheeky little personality back, thankfully. His temp has gone and his heart rate has gone back to normal with it – so thankful for Calpol, baby Nurofen and water right now!

I just wanted to drop in because I have been a little lacking on the social media front as well recently. I am one of the admins on the UK Bloggers Facebook group and feel a little guilty that I’ve been leaving Sarah and D doing all the legwork whilst I’ve been skiving off – silly, I know!

Once today is over, work will settle down for a couple of weeks before Mothers Day plus I also have the whole weekend off, so I am dedicating it to blog time. I have so much stuff that I want to share with you – I’ve just got to take the photographs and write the words! I’m also in the process of having my blog redesigned (yes, I know – again! I’m indecisive, you must know that by now!)

I hope you’re all well and excuse my incoherent ramblings in this post, I just wanted to check in with you all.

On a side note, HAPPY VALENTINES DAY! Have a fantastic day, no matter what you are doing.
