Degustabox ‘New Year New Me’ | January 2018

I was sent this Degustabox for the purpose of review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

We received our monthly Degustabox just the other day – but what did we receive in our box? All these goodies cost just £12.99 – and that is including postage – buy your very own box here. Here is what we received this month…

Santa Maria Latin American Kitchen Colombian Crunchy Chicken Bites Seasoned Corn Coating – 90p

We haven’t used this yet as we are keeping it for a special meal but it sounds super delicious and we have been impressed with the Santa Maria products we have received in the past.

Explore Cuisine Organic Edamame and Fung Bean Fettucine –  £3

With none of us being edamame or fung bean fans, we have popped this into the local food bank but it provides a high amount of plant based protein and fibre per serving and has almost three times more protein than regular pasta per 50g serving.

Miso Tasty Spicy Ramen Noodle Kit – £1.99

We have had these before and really enjoyed so looking forward to trying them again.
Hershey’s Cookies N Creme 5 Pack snack pack – £1

Hershey’s is a rare treat for us and we all really enjoyed these – very tasty!Mallow & Marsh Coconut Marshmallow bar – £1.35

I’ve been seeing Mallow & Marsh around a lot recently so am so happy that I finally got to taste the brand for myself – this was delicious!Santa Maria Latin American Kitchen Chipotle Mayo Topping – £1.80

I am not a big chipotle fan but Steve likes it so this is a welcome addition to our cupboards.

Wild Planet Albacore Wild Tuna Steaks – £3.49

We only had these in the last few months so it was quite disappointing to see these again. Not because of the brand or product at all – my kids love tuna so this will always go down well – but when a box is supposed to be varied, you don’t expect a product you only just received in a recent box.

Clipper Everyday Organic Tea – sample

I love Clipper tea so this was a very welcome addition to the box. You just can’t beat a cuppa.
Pulsin Vanilla Whey Protein Powder – £1.99

No one in the house uses protein powder so not sure what we are going to do with this. I understand this is a ‘new year, new me’ box but don’t quite understand the inclusion of protein powder in the box unlike the other Pulsin products.

Pulsin Vanilla Choc Chip Protein Booster – £1.59

I don’t really eat protein booster products but these are delicious, they’re filling and healthy. Yum.

Jordans Juicy Red Berries Frusli bars – 45p

An affordable delicious snack from a prestigious brand. We really enjoyed these.
Mahtay Yerba Mate Sparkling Tea – £1.49

A light sparkling drink that blends yerba mate with coconut water and acai berries. Refreshing and healthy. I wasn’t too sure on the taste straight away but I soon got used to it.

Robinsons Fruit Cordial – £2.49

Robinsons is a staple brand in our household so we were happy to see this included. It is very tasty and the whole family likes it.

LighterLife Fast Ready to drink shakes – £2.49 each

I again understand the ‘New Year, New Me’ motto of the box but am not too sure how I feel about the inclusion of diet drinks. As I don’t drink meal replacement drinks and am currently following Slimming World as is Steve, these aren’t of use to me so I am going to pass along to someone who will actually benefit from them. They can also be enjoyed as a protein hit.

So what did I think of the box this month? It is important to remember that I get sent all the products available across the boxes – some subs may get one thing, others another (there are options for non alcoholic and alcoholic boxes – I would receive both the alcoholic items and the non alcoholic so I can give my viewpoint on all the items available).

But my thoughts on this month are a little..meh. The value of the box is great – well over the £12.99 you actually pay and I understand the theme of the box but I am a little disappointed by the inclusion of diet drinks as I’m sure many subscribers would be – not everyone wants to lose weight and not everyone can actually use meal replacement items.

I am also a little disappointed in the reuse so soon of certain products – we had ramen noodles and the tuna not too long ago, as we did the Robinsons (but I got a different flavour this time). Hopefully next month will see a bit more variety.

Do you buy any subscription boxes?

  1. oooh I saw mallow and marsh in sainsburys today. Would love to give that a try. The diet drinks are an odd inclusion because they are for a specific diet plan – I understand the inclusion of low fat/low calorie type products but those replacements are not something most people would consider.

  2. Ooooh, you’ve got me interested straightaway with those Colombian Chicken Bites in your top pic! I went to Colombia back in 2015, and the meat there was so well-seasoned, I’ve never tried anything like it – and didn’t know you could get that sort of seasoning in the UK. Trying the Degusta Box is worth it for that alone 🙂 x

  3. I’ve been wanting to try these Robinsons flavours for a while, but I cant seem to find them anywhere! Sounds like a fairly decent box though, compared to others I have seen. I’d try everything!

  4. I think the idea of a box that introduces you to lots of different and new products is fantastic. I don’t think I would be too happy to receive diet products, but that is just me.
I think the price is pretty good, as you clearly get more than you pay for it, which makes it good value. The only problem is if you get a lot of products that you don’t end up liking…. I guess you have to take that chance
