December Degustabox | Healthy New Year

At the beginning of this month, I received the December Degustabox which focused on a ‘healthy new year’ aspect. This tallied in well with my whole outlook for 2016 so I was excited to see what was included within the box.

Due to me being on the Slimming World plan and using my syns wisely, I simply tried a few of these items and gave them to Jack and Steve. So here is what we thought of them all:

We were sent two bags of Hip Pops, one in Salt & Vinegar flavour and another in Salt & Black Pepper flavours. These were very full of flavour and are a healthier alternative to crisps with typically 50% less fat than normal crisps. Four of the six flavours are gluten free too! These were very intense in flavour but I can imagine that the flavours may be a little too much for some people. These packs are £1 each.

We were also sent two bags of the healthy freeze dried fruit and veg snacks from Nothing But…. At £1.69 each, they aren’t cheap but they do taste good and Jack adored both the pineapple & grape and the strawberry & banana bags.

I completely understand the inclusion of water in a healthy box and these bottles of Nuva for £1.49 each as part of Degustabox Discoveries were a nice addition. I didn’t like the cucumber and mint flavour but the ginger and lemon was lovely.

I was a bit unsure about the inclusion of alcohol in a box designed to be healthy but I am not complaining since I have kept these for my birthday (which is on Friday!). I obviously haven’t yet tried the Red Square Toffee Vodka miniature (£1.99) as I have been saving it for my birthday but I have tried the Crabbies Light Ginger Beer (£1.49) previously and loved it. I even won a couple of bottles so have a few to treat myself to!

The KoKo dairy free original was a great addition to see in the box as it is nice to see companies thinking about the consumer when so many have allergies right now. At £1.79 it is an affordable price and a handy thing to keep in the house.

Chai Latte has quite a few syns despite the low calories but I do love it so I am currently saving this sample sachet for a special treat!

Pasta is always a bonus in my book so this Barilla Fusilli pasta was a great addition for me. I eat a lot of pasta and this was consumed quite quickly – and I loved it. I make my own sauces now that I am on Slimming World but I know Steve used the sauce for him and Jack one night when I was out and said that it was really nice –  £2 and £1.

Finally we received some other items which, thanks to my partner and son, never made it to photo stage…they will learn one day that I need to take pictures first!

We received some Betavivo oat heart cereal (£1) which Jack had for breakfast one day and really liked. We may get it again for him/ We also received a Complete Energy Bites bar (£1.99) which is designed to provide an instant boost. Apparently this was great just before exercise for my partner. Finally, we received some Fabulous Bakers Mango & Pineapple bars which were so popular in my house I barely got a look in. Hmph. These are £1.80 for the box and made with real fruit and all natural ingredients.

What did I think of this box? I’m honestly not sure. I think Degustabox had good intentions as shown by the inclusion of the healthy cereal, pasta and water but then the alcohol doesn’t make sense to me. If I think of healthy items, I don’t think of those I’m afraid. What do you think?
