We’ve always been a car family but I have often thought about travel options. I don’t mind walking to and from places and am not against using public transport either but the majority of our travels are made by car. Cars however can be very expensive to run – especially when there is a problem with them. Since Steve is the only that drives, we have looked at options that may be a bit cheaper to run.
Many of our friends and family don’t have cars and actually use motorcycles. Most of them use these as they are much cheaper to run and they are less likely to have problems like cars so often do – remember me talking about how much our MOT cost us back in 2015? Eek! We’ve been looking into how much it would cost to run a motorcycle instead of a car and how much motorcycle parts online cost should the need arise to purchase them. Whilst we are more than likely to keep using our car as it is so much more convenient for us, it is always good to weigh up the options and see what will work out best for our family and for our budget – after all we are trying to save as much money as possible and get debt free as soon as possible too. If changing our transport helps with that, then it is definitely a transport option worth looking into.
One of our big expenses when it comes to our car apart from MOT time is car tyres so we researched michelin motorcycle tires for sale to get a rough idea on prices. Knowing where we stand budget wise can make it much easier to make a decision. Of course this would mean Steve needing to get a motorcycle licence but if it works out better for us, it’s a small ask in the long run. I’m quite happy to walk places and use public transport when needs be but Steve obviously needs something to get him to and from work. The main reason we do keep the car is because of the kids but there are of course ways to work around this.
While we aren’t anywhere close to making a decision yet, it is handy to know where we stand and what options we have to suit our budget. Whilst we are more than likely going to keep a car in our budget, researching what we can use has been super handy when looking at our budget – maybe one day we may opt to go down from four wheels to two.
