We are always looking for the quickest meal options in this household – especially at lunchtime – so we are no stranger to the cooked meat aisle in our local supermarkets. Most parents will know – if your child really loves something, you keep a stock of it at all times. Jack never used to be fussy with his food but has recently started acting up. Whilst we still try to persevere with foods he now ‘doesn’t like’, we also keep our fridge, freezer and cupboards stocked full of items that he does.
We find it difficult to think of new meal ideas when it comes to sliced meats – especially when you are in a rush and need to make something in a matter of minutes. It is far too easy to opt for the simple options such as a cooked meat sandwich or a cooked meat salad but we wanted to try something a little different and aim to make some quick meals that weren’t always the norm.
Cherry Tree Farm kindly sent us their whole range of cooked meats to enable us to participate in this challenge. They are a brand new cooked meat brand for families who launched in Co-Op stores nationwide on the 15th of October. There are some amazing products in the range – British “American Fried” Chicken and the Hickory Smoked Turkey were particular favourites in this household. So what type of meal ideas did we come up with?
We tried to think of some normal meal ideas and then some not so normal and here is what we came up with:
– Roast Chicken Salad sandwich – use the Roast Chicken, lettuce, cucumber, tomato and a huge dollop of salad cream
– Turkey Ham & Cream Cheese bagel – as simple as it sounds
– Roast Turkey Salad – same principles as the chicken salad sandwich but with added salad and no bread – what do you like in your salad?
– Hickory Smoked Turkey & Jacket Potato – Jacket Potatoes are an easy to make lunch and if you like a simple filling, why not use the turkey ripped up on the jacket potato with melted cheese on top.

– “American Fried” Chicken pasta – Make pasta like you normally would, cut up the “American Fried” chicken, add a mild flavoured sauce (so as not to take away from the flavour of the chicken) and toss the chicken in.
– Roast Chicken Chunks Caesar Salad – does what it says on the tin
– Tikka Chicken Chunks Wrap – Always so simple to make and you can add whatever you like. We like some lettuce and some sauce.
I’ll be showing off our meals in a couple of weeks when I also rundown some great ideas for Christmas leftovers – after all, they are cooked meats too! What type of meals do you make with your favourite cooked meats?
