I don’t get to spend much time with Steve as he is always on shift work and I get to spend even less time with my parents, especially my elderly father who doesn’t leave the house as much as he used to. With that in mind, I agreed to host a movie night, complete with DVD and snacks, for my family in collaboration with Gracewell. My local Gracewell is the Chingford community and to let you know a little more about them, they are a care home provider who believe that every single one of their residents – and families – have individual needs for both their level of care and for the life they want to live. Movie nights are often a regular occurrence at their care homes where they encourage residents families to attend.
I don’t actually know anyone or have any family in a care home but with many of my family being elderly now or rapidly approaching old age, it is something that has to be kept in mind. I will always help my mum with my dad should the need arise, as would my four siblings – but for other members of the family, that support possibly wouldn’t be there and a care home may become the only alternative.
Gracewell kindly sent me a DVD of my choice and some snacks plus a little money to buy some extra snacks. With both Steve and I dieting right now, we picked some slightly less naughty snacks to go alongside what we were sent and all settled down for our movie night.

We had a very enjoyable movie night. Its always great to get to spend time with family, especially when it doesn’t happen as often as you would like it to due to whatever reasons. We are all so busy right now, dealing with things in our own lives but that shouldn’t take away from family time if you can help it.
I’m definitely going to be making more of an effort to visit my older relatives. My Dad and grandparents only live a few minutes either way from Jack’s school so they are easy to pop in to see but other family, not so much.
Do you make enough time for the elderly members of your family?
