How The Fashion Of Celebrities Has Changed Over The Years

It is interesting to see how the fashion of celebrities has changed over the years., particularly that of music artists. It seems outfits are so much more risqué nowadays, not quite as demure – although I’m sure plenty of us remember the risqué outfits Britney and Christina used to wear back in the early 2000’s!

We still obviously have the best and worst dressed lists from the Oscars, the Grammy’s, the Bafta’s where plenty of celebrities turn up in their finest outfits only to have them picked apart by the press.  As a normal everyday person I am lucky this doesn’t happen to me, I don’t have to worry about people poring over my every outfit choice.

With the outfit choices around nowadays, there is a lot of talk about role models and whether the way someone dresses means they are a good role model or not. Personally I believe fashion is subjective and whilst some celebrities should take some care in regards to their audience, they should never be told what to wear or be forced into wearing or not wearing something they don’t want to. We all saw the constant media buzz surrounding Miley Cyrus after the VMA’s and the Wrecking Ball video. Yes, she wasn’t dressing like Hannah Montana anymore and yes, she perhaps was dressing a little risqué for some of her audience’s eyes but I have faith in humanity that not everyone would choose to follow her blindly. If that is what Miley wants to wear and she’s comfortable in it, fair enough.

I also feel the same way about Charlotte Crosby. Now personally, I adore Charlotte and it annoys me that she gets a lot of hate because some girls call her their role model. She has always stated that she never set out to be anyone’s role model and whilst she may get drunk and have accidents sometimes, it cannot be denied that she is a shrewd businesswoman and has also worked hard to have the body she wants. Maybe thats what people consider her a role model for and not the other not so positive stuff that the media likes to focus on?

Below is an infographic on how celebrity fashion has changed over the years and I found it really fascinating. People seem to say that outfit choices, especially in music, have become a little more risqué in recent years and yes, that may be the case for Miley and Justin Bieber but it is quite clear to see that this isn’t a new thing with other music artists such as Lady Gaga and Katy Perry also choosing similar outfits in the past.

Do I think that outfit choices should have any bearing on whether a celebrity can be called a role model at all? A little bit of both but mostly no. I do feel that celebrities should have some responsibility for their actions in some senses but at the end of the day, fashion is subjective and they are free to make their own choices…who are we to judge?

Do you remember these outfit choices from over the years? I remember all of them!
