My 2019 Reading Challenge | Books 46-50

I’m here with yet another reading round-up!  I have been reading a lot this past week or two – again a lot of non fiction appears. Here are books 41-45. Evil Women by Emma Pullar – 3/5

You can find plenty about these women online but it was interesting to read about them in a little more depth. With well known names such as Rose West and other lesser known women, this was an interesting read.

Serial Killers True Crime: Chilling True Crime Cases of the World’s Most Twisted Serial Killers & Criminals by Layla Hawkes – 4/5

This was an informative look at some of the world’s most twisted killers. I found the book interesting and will definitely see what else the author has written. You can buy the book on Amazon here {affiliate link}.

The Quiet Ones by Theresa Talbot -5/5

I was gifted a copy of this novel by Aria Fiction via Netgalley for the purpose of review. Honestly, this was a hard hitting read. The book starts with the death of a well known, renowned football figure Harry Nugent – and the way he dies and his body is found is absolutely brutal. Oonagh McNeil is a journalist looking to cover the story who finds herself investigating what happened to him and the brutal deaths of other men which followed. What connected them – and who wanted them dead?

Oonagh and the police uncover much more than they probably expected to but the scary thing is we know that things like this happen in real life, thanks to very high profile cases of TV entertainers using places such as hospitals for their own ‘benefit’.

The ending was a complete surprise – I actually kept saying to Steve that I need to get to the end, I need to know who did it. I didn’t guess it and it was a total surprise but one that made total sense. You can buy the book on Amazon here {affiliate link}.

Christmas at the Foyles Bookshop by Elaine Roberts – 4/5

I was gifted a copy of this novel by Aria Fiction for the purpose of review. I’ve got a full review of this coming up on the blog this week but simply, this wasn’t what I expected but in a good way. I really enjoyed the characters and the true horror of war was explored in a truthful way but also delicately. I’d definitely recommend. You can buy the book on Amazon here {affiliate link}.

Death at Eden’s End by Jo Allen – 4/5

I was gifted a copy of this novel by Aria Fiction via Netgalley for the purpose of review. This was my first introduction to the author and won’t be my last venture into her work. The plot tells of a death at a care home – a 100 year old woman’s death is hardly suspicious, right? Wrong!

I really liked the characters of Jude, Becca and Ashleigh. I didn’t guess the ending but I did have a gut feeling that all was not quite right with one of the characters and was pleased to see my gut feeling was correct.
