If it’s possible you should try and think about ways to keep them close by. This may not be feasible for everyone, but many families are building annexes for their parents in their own back gardens. Although there are many things to think about before building an annexe, your worries will definitely be reduced if this became the new norm for you. Not only would you parents still have some independence, but you could also check up on them whenever you want.

  1. Stay For a Cup of Tea

If it’s not possible to keep them close by, you need to make an active effort to go out and see them whenever you can. Calling in for a quick cup of tea will always make them smile, no matter what. If they offer to put the kettle on when you’re visiting, this is a sign that they definitely want you to stay for longer.
