Collaborative Post
Lockdown may be affecting us all differently, but it is still affecting us all in some way or another. One of the main concerns that most of us have at this time is trying to ensure that we remain healthy, happy and, as far as possible, generally well. If you are struggling to take proper care of yourself during all of this, you are not alone. There has rarely been a more challenging time than this. However, there are some simple things you can do to encourage good self-care during the lockdown. Let’s take a look at some of them right now.
Add Some Structure To Your Day
When you are stuck at home the whole time, it can be hard to feel as though you are able to get anything done, or even to know whether you should be getting anything done. That’s a tricky situation to be in. If you find that you don’t know what to do with yourself or you are frequently feeling restless, you might want to try and add some structure to your day. There are a lot of ways to do this, and however you approach it, you are going to find that having some structure in your day can really make a world of difference.
When you do this, remember that it may take time to get back to normal levels of activity, and that’s okay. What matters is that you are taking small steps to slowly add some structure back to your day, and in doing so you are starting to feel more normal again. That’s a hugely important thing to aim for.
Make Small Achievements
It’s really important not to try and do too much right now. If you do, you are only going to increase your chance of burnout, and find that you are more likely to feel overwhelmed. However, doing something each day is a great way to try and feel better, and should be considered an essential way to look after yourself more effectively at this strange time. It’s all about trying to make small achievements. Although they are only small, they are not insignificant, and you will be able to have a feeling of accomplishment which might have become rare in this past year or so.

Start The Day Right
The way you start each day says a lot about how well you are looking after yourself. In fact, if you want to improve your self-care, this is a great place to start. The perfect morning routine should involve some healthy food, a quick shower, some kind of exercise, and a little breath work or meditation. If you can do all that, the rest of the day is much more likely to go as planned, and you might find that you are going to feel a lot better in yourself. Even if you can only do a little of this, that should still make a difference, so it’s something to focus on for that regard too.
Arrange Some Video Calls
In order to take care of yourself properly, you need to ensure you are keeping in touch with the people who are important to you in your life. Although your options are limited on how to do this right now, there are nonetheless some great ways to make it a reality. For one thing, you could arrange to have some video calls with your friends and family on a regular basis. That should help you to feel more social even if you can’t really leave the home. If you are wondering how to have fun at home with your friends, you might want to arrange a quiz or something similar. People are bound to get on board with that, and it could be a lot of fun.
Eat Well
It’s useful if you can focus on the things you can control, rather than the things you can’t. And something you can always control, lockdown or not, is what you eat. By eating healthily, you are going to be doing yourself so many favours, not least the fact that you will have a much better chance of feeling good in yourself. You will also be able to fight off viruses, which is important right now especially, and particularly as it is still the depths of winter. Be sure to eat plenty of fruit and veg every single day, and as far as possible avoid too many processed foods. That should enable you to feel a lot better in yourself in no time.
Take It One Day At A Time
When you start to feel overwhelmed by it all, it’s important to try and focus on the moment as much as you can. Taking it one day at a time really is incredibly important, and yet it is something that many of us find incredibly hard to do. If you find yourself thinking about the past and the future all the time, you might want to focus in and look at the present more. As long as you do that, you are much more likely to feel good and not feel too overwhelmed by everything, and it means you can be a little more productive and easygoing as well, no matter what else might be going on in your life at this weird time.
Keep Off Social Media
Social media may well offer us a lot of good things, but it is also something that can be very bad for your mental health. If you are the kind of person who ends up ‘doom scrolling’, you should be aware of when you are engaging in this habit, and take every effort to stop it as soon as you can. That might take a while, and a lot of trial and error, but ultimately it is worth it for what good it will do your mind. This is one of the very best things you can do for yourself at any time, especially at a time like this during this lockdown.
