Kaya Jewellery was started by Tanja. One day her daughter Kaya wanted the same bracelet as her mum for a party saying “This way everyone can see that we belong together”. With Tanja wanting to fulfil her wish, she strived to create a jewellery set that you couldn’t find anyone else.
She quit her job in 2012 and wrote a business plan. She wanted to create a jewellery company that caters to mothers with daughters, and also wanted to give something back to underpriviledged children. So she started to design jewellery, bought some labels, designed a website and launched. Her dream was to develop an affordable brand of children’s jewellery. Not made of plastic or wood, but jewellery made from genuine materials like precious stones, crystals and freshwater pearls. With matching mum jewellery, so you can celebrate all special occasions in your daughters life (birth, baptism, communion, her first birthday or her being a flowergirl or bridesmaid) together with her, symbolically united.
Wanting to give something back. I came into contact with Eduki, the Education for Kids Foundation, who make sure that underpriviledged children in Gambia can go to school. Tanja donates part of her profit to give children in Gambia the chance to go to school. So far she sponsors 10 children.
