Virtual assistance i something I actually fell into. After taking voluntary redundancy in summer 2013, I decided to have a few months off before starting 2014, focusing on my blog and freelance writing. It wasn’t until late 2016 that virtual assistance became something I considered. Sarah asked if I had ever thought about it and asked if I could help her with something. I did – then when someone asked in a Facebook group for recommendations, she recommended me. From there on, most of my virtual assistance work came through word of mouth.
One of my main clients actually came through word of mouth from another client of mine – I was very grateful to be passed over and still am. A couple of people saw me posting for others in Facebook groups and contacted me off the back of that.
But why do I love it so much?
It is a guaranteed wage every month
I have some clients who I work for consistently every month which means no matter what happens with the blogging and freelance writing, I always have that money coming in.
It is never the same
I do have work that I do on a regular basis for people but I can guarantee that no one day will ever be the same. I may be doing social media promo, helping write articles or social media texts, doing chore threads, making images…I can never be too sure what the day will bring!
It enables me to work from home
Perhaps my biggest reason – this job helps me to work from home. I can work around the kid’s clubs and bedtimes – as long as the work gets done before deadline, my clients don’t mind when it gets done.
I can always take on more people
I recently updated my prices and packages and know where my freedom is and where my restrictions are. I know, for example, that I wouldn’t be able to fit in someone who needed more than 10 hours a week but I could potentially fit someone in for less. I’ve created packages for each hourly package increment with discounts for bulk buying.
These are just a few reasons why I love being a virtual assistant. What started as a side hustle has become an amazing job and I wouldn’t change it for the world. Find out more about my virtual assistance packages here.
