We were gifted the experience in return for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I have always wanted to do an escape room – they have always looked like so much fun. I was recently invited to try out one of Trapped London’s escape room experiences, Trapped In A Prison Van. I assembled a team of six – myself, Steve, three other bloggers and one of their boyfriends – to hopefully have a good time and get together for the first time in ages.
You are invited to test out your skills in an authentic prison van – one that Trapped London have refurbished to create the ultimate prison break experience and which was purchased from Kent Police in late 2016. I obviously cannot talk about much of the game play and especially the clues to break out as this would ruin the experience for others but what I can tell you is that you and your gang have been arrested and found guilty. You are being transported to HMP Pentonville where you will all be serving a life sentence. Your mission is to stop the van and escape within 60 minutes – can it be done?
We arrived in horrible weather conditions so the prospect of being stuck in a prison van for sixty minutes was actually quite appealing! Tanya from Glam Glitz Gloss arrived first and gave our team the name which you can see on the team photo below! For this experience you put on an orange jumpsuit and chain restraints – yes, cuffs around the wrists and ankles. No heels are allowed due to the nature of the game.
We came up with our stories of why we were being sent to prison – I was being sent to jail for fraud – and we were interrogated by a police officer whilst getting into our jumpsuits and cuffs. Then it was time for the game to begin…
Let me just say the escape room was a lot of fun – but boy, could it be stressful at times! It can be so frustrating knowing that you are so close and yet so far – we kept finding clues and trying to work out what they were for could be quite difficult at times. We worked well together as a team and often split up into two teams of three or three teams of two to try and target different areas of the van. I was the last one of our group released from my cell so everyone had a head start on looking for clues without me!
As the time was ticking down, it seemed like we weren’t going to do it. The pressure really is on once those final ten minutes tick onto the clock but I am proud to say we did it – with around four minutes to go!
We later found out that not everyone manages to get out so I am so happy and proud of us that we managed to achieve our goal!
My first experience of an escape room was an extremely positive one and was so fun, even if a little stressful at times. It was great to be able to do it with a few of my friends and have a catch up too!
I am definitely going to be trying out more escape rooms after this! Have you ever done an escape room?

That sounds like a fun thing to do. Like you I think I might get a bit panicky though!!
I have never tried it, but I have heard a lot of positive opinions about escape rooms. I really should try it one day!
I’ve not done an escape room yet, but I am interested. It sounds as if you had a really good time and well done on escaping. Mich x
Sound like you and your friends had a fabulous time (esp in cuffs) in the prison van escape room It is great that you managed to finish it with some minutes left to spare as well.
Oh this looks brilliant! Scott is mad in escape rooms and this one is definitely up his street ! It’s his birthday in 2 weeks , he would love this as a present!
Such a good idea to do it in a prison van! Sounds like you had fun, I bet I would get trapped in haha
Sounds like a hoot. And be great for team building. Though might be intense too
This looks like such a great one to do. We have a company that do these rooms really local to us and we had a go last year. We didn’t finish but it was just me and my son. They were surprisingly hard!
I’ve always wanted to do an escape room, they look like so much fun and I love the fact that this is in a van! X
What a great take on an escape room, definitly a super original idea! Love it!!
Yay you finally got to try and escape room…well van! Congrats on escaping out haha xx
I’m not sure whether I would love this or hate it, the idea of being locked in a prison van is nerve-racking just thinking of it. Congratulations on escaping!
Sounds like you had a great time. Sounds like the perfect activity to try with friends
