This is a guest post from the lovely Lu at A Life of Lovely.
I’ve been an advocate of clean beauty for the last eight years. It all came about when my daughter asked to use my antiperspirant when she was little. I was horrified! I then thought that it was pretty hypocritical to not allow her to use it but to carry on using it myself. From here, I researched alternative options and what all the ingredient names on labels meant. More horror!
I started off by making my own products. This was very time consuming and very expensive. It was a time when there weren’t a lot of options for toxin-free products on the market. Gradually though, after making my own products for a couple of years, there became more and more available online and I started buying a few bits.
Finding a non-toxic shampoo was one of my biggest battles. I tried the no poo/BS method (no shampoo, bicarbonate of soda), I even tried using just egg yolks at one point (which was surprisingly efficient actually!).
What Is Clean Beauty?
Clean beauty is a combination of natural ingredients which are often not tested on animals or made with synthetic chemicals.
Clean beauty products often have a much shorter ingredient list because the ingredients have fewer chemicals. This means that the formula is simpler and information about what they do inside the skin is easier to understand.
Why Choose Clean Beauty?
I choose clean beauty because I think it’s important to know what we’re putting on our bodies. It takes 26 seconds for what we put on our bodies to reach our bloodstream. Our skin is our largest organ and we need to care for it. Regular products often contain lists of ingredients that are as long as my arm. We can rarely pronounce what the ingredients are, let alone know what they are, what they do and why they’re there.
Clean Beauty Is Better for the Environment
The use of natural products is increasingly popular among eco-conscious consumers. Many people are turning to clean beauty products as a way to minimize their environmental footprint.
The phrase clean beauty, which refers to products that are free of potentially harmful chemicals like phthalates and parabens, seems like a good fit for an eco-friendly lifestyle. In fact, many companies that make these kinds of products claim they’re better for the environment because they create less waste than conventional brands.
It’s clearer that more and more people are interested in this way of living. The green beauty industry is growing at an incredible rate that some of the multimillion-pound companies are bandying about flash words like SLS Free and Paraben free. You still need to read the ingredients list because they’re more than often not doing something called greenwashing.

Why You Should Transition to Clean Beauty Products
The change in consumer trends has caused many beauty companies to adapt their products to be more environmentally friendly and less toxic. You can buy the likes of Wild deodorant (which I use myself) and Sukin (another great skincare brand) from Sainsbury’s.
The shift away from conventional beauty products is not only being driven by environmental concerns, but also safety concerns. Consumers are becoming more aware of the ingredients that are contained in their products and what they might do to their skin, hair, or body. Clean beauty is a growing trend because people want safe and natural products that won’t harm them or the environment.
The rise of clean beauty is such a big deal because it’s changing the way we think about how we take care of our bodies. It’s about time we started to enjoy our skin.
The benefits of clean beauty are plentiful. From being better for the environment to having fewer harsh chemicals, it is a win-win for everyone involved.
