Why A Backdrop Is A Great Tool For A Blogger

As a blogger, I use a variety of tools to help me with my business. I also do freelance writing and virtual assistance and these tools span all three of my different career roles.

I utilise social media management tools, scheduling tools, photo editing and much, much more but what I wanted to talk to you about today was why a backdrop is perfect for a blogger.

Why would you want a backdrop?

There are many different styles of backdrop. Used in photoshoots, you can choose the right style for you. As a blogger, I may want to take product photos and need a decent background to really make the photos pop. Flowers, grey fog, you name it – there will be a backdrop to suit your needs!

One of my favourite types of backdrop to use when I do use them is flooring backdrops. Nothing makes photos pop than a flooring backdrop – wooden flooring being my favourite especially – although colourful ones work just as well.

What does a backdrop do?

A backdrop makes a great addition to your photos. It helps to make your photos pop and makes them that little bit more interesting. I often just place items I am photographing on a plain white or plain black background but sometimes a photo needs that little bit of pizzazz. I especially find backdrops work perfectly when photographing gift guides for big events during the year such as Valentines Day, Mothers Day, Fathers Day and Christmas.

I’m by no means a photographer but I know what I want from an image and how I want it to look. Things like backdrops and props help me and other bloggers to achieve that goal and help our pictures to tell the stories we want them to tell.

What type of backdrop do you need?

I would definitely suggest using a vinyl backdrop. These are easy to use and wrinkle free. They are super easy to clean between different shots too. I also love that they are fairly easy to store and are durable – they really do last the distance and are well worth the investment. There are paper choices out there but I would definitely recommend a vinyl backdrop over this, you will definitely be able to tell the difference. The only thing you might prefer from paper is that vinyl is a lot heavier and can be harder to transport if you need it to be portable. However, as a blogger who works from home, this isn’t an issue for me in the slightest.

Why should you use one?

I’ve mentioned before that it can really make photos that little bit more special, making the colours pop or the item you’re shooting the prime focus of the photo. It adds something to a photo without causing a distraction. It is also much easier than trying to add the details in digitally. Say you want a sunset in the background of your photo – it is much easier to buy a sunset backdrop and use it time and time again than to try and add it in digitally which will take a lot of time and effort.

If you’re a blogger, do you use a backdrop? Why do you use it?

  2. There are some really good tips here and I always try and use a background when taking photos, usually something that works well with natural light x

Backdrops are great for making your photos look more professional. I use them all the time. Vinyl ones are great because they don’t crease up.

Since restarting the blog, I’ve wondered how to make my photos more appealing and more of a ‘gram’ feel, well now i know! Thank you 🙂 x

  5. I love a good backdrop I have to admit – I’ve got a pile of them in hall but I seem to get stuck on using one for ages and then switch to another and do the same. I should 100% switch them out more often.

  6. I love using my backdrop for blogging photos, I just don’t have a big enough surface that I like the look of for flat lays etc. I like the uniformity of my photos and the way it makes the subject of my photo stand out. I definitely recommend getting one.
