Having the wedding of your dreams is a pretty subjective thing to talk about. Everybody has their own interpretations and expectations, and something that you may absolutely adore could be another person’s worst nightmare. It’s sort of like baby names and telling your friends what you’re going to name your child before they arrive – there’s always someone who knows of a cousin’s ex-partner’s sister’s husband’s child-from-their-first-marriage who had that name who turned out to be a totally awful person. The best thing that you can do with your marriage plans is to keep the under wraps until the big day – everybody loves a surprise.
Wedding Venues
Obviously, the one thing that won’t be a surprise (because they’ll need to know how to get there) is the wedding venue. There are so many beautiful places around the UK for you to get married, that it’s hard to know where to start. You could take a look at some bijou wedding venues or take it a bit further and have a look at the big, grand and famously-frequented places which are on offer to brides and grooms throughout the year. It’s usually the latter that have waiting lists that are years long, so if you’re planning on getting married sooner rather than later, they’re probably the ones to avoid.
The Dress
This is the one main thing about the whole day that is totally your decision, and that you shouldn’t really be looking for outside input on – well, only to tell you that you look completely fabulous. There is a bit of a rise of the number of brides who are making their own dresses (or getting a friend/family member to do it for them as a wedding gift), so this could make for a frugal option if you are well versed in dressmaking. If not, take a look around; there are hundreds of bridal boutiques all waiting for you to go in there and try on their array of dresses, so don’t limit yourself to one shop.
Wedding Party Outfits
Outfits for other people are where things start to get a tricky. You should listen to people’s opinions on what looks good on them and what they would prefer, but at the end of the day, it’s your occasion. If you are the one spending the money on the outfit, then they will have to suck up your choice. For bridesmaids, you could consider giving them some cash and a general theme to stick for (for example, a floaty navy blue midi length dress) and see what they come up with to choose to wear. What you will most likely end up with is a mix and match of their personalities, but along the theme that you have chosen. Whilst it’s not the most traditional option, as people generally like their bridesmaids to match, it’s one that could see you pocketing a bit of change at the end of the day and give a spark of creativity and imagination to your bridal party. If you go all out, and work with your Château de la mothe wedding videographer to help capture your event at its utter best, you’ll no doubt look back on this day with real fondness.
