I’ve always been reluctant to try out diet plans whereas Steve is much more interested. Over the years he has tried Slimfast and Lighter Life and I’ve tried Jenny Craig but always preferred to try eating a little healthier and exercising a lot more. Since the weight didn’t seem to be going anywhere, I agreed eagerly when approached to review some Saints and Slimmers products.
I won’t lie, I was quite dubious going into the diet. How would I cope with losing so many calories? The first couple of times I did find myself incredibly hungry but as the month wore on, the hunger disappeared as my body got used to it.The food I was sent was interesting, to say the least. Breakfasts were muesli or porridge, there were milkshakes, soups, savoury meals and crisp bars. My favourites by far were the savoury meals – I often found the breakfasts a little too sickly sweet despite the low calories and some of the soups flavours were too intense for me – this isn’t a gripe with the products at all, merely a note that some of the products perhaps aren’t for the most sensitive of tastebuds.

With the savoury food being my favourite, it makes sense to tell you how much I loved the cottage pie – it was simply divine and you wouldn’t know that it was a meal replacement from the taste, as you can other brands of diet products. Again, some of the savoury dinners were quite intense in flavour, a little too spicy – but that could be perfect for someone else’s taste buds, just not for mine.
Would I try the diet again? I’m not sure. I did lose a couple of pounds on the diet and no longer felt hunger towards the end of the month on my two days of meal replacements. However those first few times can be quite hard to get through and I’m amazed I did – I can be quite weak willed at times and I’m surprised I didn’t cave and eat! If there were more items available I think I definitely would but until then, I’m on the fence. The fact that two of the four savoury meals are spicy, another is Mexican so has some spice …this leaves you quite limited if you don’t like heat at all. A few more meals to choose from would be perfect.
Currently the 5:2 diet plan is down from £59.76 to £33.49 – so if you’re thinking about trying it, its definitely worth taking a look here.

Definitely agree about the sweetness and the soups packing a punch – I guess it's because diet foods can often be a bit bland so they're trying to make up for it?
I wish I hadn't felt poorly on it but then dairy does that, I hadn't thought about the fact that there was dairy in them (or that I was using dairy with it) because I'm not totally dairy free, I just can't drink milk and I thought a drop of skimmed milk would be ok, clearly not. That said, I still get full milk in my hot chocolate when I go out,and I pay for it… I just forget xx
I really like the 5:2 plan – I have amazing energy the day after one of the reduced-calorie days
