Food & Drink, Reviews

October Degustabox

It has been a while since I reviewed a Degustabox. Much as I love the boxes, I haven’t been able to justify restarting my subscription so when contacted to ask if I would like to review for Degustabox again, I had to say yes – I always love the fab selection of items they have. Snacks, store cupboard essentials and often something for all members of the family, what’s not to love?

So what did we get this month? Not pictured are some 9Bars, the product of the month, which didn’t quite make it to picture taking stage. The Original Carob Hit is a great source of energy, remaining tasty whilst also being extremely nutritious. I also received a President voucher for some unsalted butter – we love butter in our house so that will be very useful!

We love nuts in our house so these offering from Liberation Foods went down a treat. At £2 each for the sachets, they aren’t that cheap but they are Faitrrade and aim to change the world nut by nut by bringing nut producers and consumers together to get a better deal for everyone. We were sent the peppercorn and the chilli & lime flavours. Steve and I are both normally big fans of chilli and lime and not so much peppercorn but we found the peppercorn to be the much tastier option on this occasion and found the chilli quite bland.

I haven’t yet got round to trying the freeze dried apple and as I have just started Slimming World, at 3.5 syns for some, I am going to be eating them sparingly. These are from The Snack Organisation for £1.

Crisps make a big part of our snacking and its going to be hard to cut them mostly out from my diet as I really want to make my Slimming World journey a success.

The Snack Organisation Sweet Chilli Rice Crackers are divine and totally moreish – it is so easy to eat loads of them in one go. I love sweet chilli so could eat these all day! They cost £1 per pack.

I’d never seen the Cooke’s ChipStrips until I received them in my Degustabox and they came in two of my favourite flavours – cheese & onion and smoky BBQ. These too are really moreish and it is easy to gorge yourselves on them in one go. At £2 a pack, these are the perfect crispy snack to keep you going throughout the day.

Cirio is a brand I have seen before in the Degustabox and I always love their products. We are big fans of their chopped tomatoes and their Classic Passata (£2.25 each) so I was happy to see them included.

I’ve seen and heard so much about Kabuto noodles so was intrigued to see them in our box. Steve works shift work and sandwiches can get boring so he is taking this to work one day and feeding back to me about it – at £1.99 a pot and with no additives or preservatives, it is a much better option than other noodle snacks on the market right now.

We were sent a coconut lime drink from Lorina which I haven’t yet sampled. I love both the flavours separately but the flavour of them together is something I can only drink when I am in the mood for it, can’t wait to try it though. The gluten free muesli was a great inclusion. Whilst none of the people in my household are gluten free, my Mum is and it was great to be able to share this with her. She has already told me that it tastes great and tastes just like normal muesli to her which I think is great! These cost £3.79 a box. The Provena was also one of the DB’s Discoveries for the month, included in my box.

Finally, we received some Appy Drinks. Jack has tried Appy Drinks in the past and loved them and he was excited to see one of his favourite characters on the packaging. These have already all been drunk over the past few days and he really enjoyed them, he keeps asking for more. They contain 50% less sugar and calories than regular fruit juices and are 100% natural with no added sugar or artificial preservatives, great for when it comes to keeping an eye on what your children are eating and drinking. At £1.99, they are affordable too! Again this was a DB’s Discoveries item, included as I have children – the discoveries may vary from box to box depending on your situation.
