You may remember a few months ago Jack received some fab Num Noms toys to review. Well we were recently asked to get our baking hats on and create some fab concoctions inspired by the Num Noms we received. We received the series 2 Freezie Pops family and Jack was inspired by the Wild Berry Freezie and asked Daddy to help him make a Red Velvet Cake with a twist – it would have a berry flavouring. Jack loves baking with Daddy and he loves Num Noms so I was happy to let Daddy take the lead when it came to this challenge.
Num Noms are scented collectable toys and you’ve probably heard that catchy little jingle plenty of times if you have children… ‘Num Noms, Num Noms smell so delicious…’
To create the red velvet cake with ‘secret berry twist’, the boys followed a simple Red Velvet Cake recipe with the normal ingredients of butter, caster sugar, eggs, red food colouring, flour, cocoa powder and the like and then added some simple berry flavouring that you can pick up in most major supermarkets. We are all big berry fans and we all love a good slice of cake so this was perfect and a great choice by Jack. 
He could have chosen from a number of different flavours inspired by the Num Noms he received – banana, peach, OJ and Kiwi all featured and I would have been intrigued to see what he came up with. However it is great to see him taking his own initiative and following in his Daddy’s footsteps by putting simple twists on tried and tested recipes..not too sure how I would have felt if he’d tried to make a kiwi flavoured one, you know!
