My Personal Growth As A Blogger

Collaborative Post

Having spent the past 10 years blogging, I have seen a lot happen but have also had a lot happen to me. Some good, some bad so I though I’d spend some time talking about my personal growth as a blogger.

In The Beginning

I started out blogging very sporadically – here, there and everywhere. I only started posting more regularly when I was on maternity leave during my pregnancy with Jack. I didn’t know just what blogging would come to mean to me and how it would change my life.

I always knew that I wanted to work on the blog – I have always wanted to be a writer but had never factored in the time to make it happen in my life. Now it is a massive part of my life and forms quite a large part of my income.

The First Few Years

Over the first few years, I tried to blog more consistently but I couldn’t seem to nail down a particular niche. Even now I wouldn’t say I am completely one niche but if you have been here since the beginning, then you know I not only used to do a lot of beauty content but I used to do a lot of random ramble type posts – normally which were quite long but didn’t say much at all. I used to do updates about Jack too. However it got to a point where I wanted to try and keep a consistent posting schedule and also settle down to a particular niche. I would now say I am a family lifestyle blog but it took me a while to nail down what I was and what content I wanted to produce.

In Recent Years

Since then I am proud to say I have done so much and blogging has changed my life. I’ve made so many wonderful friends, some of my closest friends, and I am proud to say it also forms some of my income – the rest of my income coming from freelance work, most of which I have got because of this site. I often work with companies, doing reviews, sponsored posts and even giveaways for my readers. I only work with brands that I believe in and I look into them and vet them just like I would expect them to do with me. There are many ways to avoid a mishap when using influencer marketing, everyone should be fully informed before committing to anything.

I now work as a virtual assistant for bloggers and content creators which would never have happened if I wasn’t for this site. I’ve also started collaborating more with bloggers and sites – writing guest posts like I used to all the time when I was starting out, contributing links to round-ups and keeping in touch with the community. I like to participate in spotlights too – much like this influencer spotlight – as it can be interesting. I’m even thinking about bringing back the blogging spotlight I used to run on here too!

Looking Forward

Looking forward, I hope to be able to continue on this site and continue to grow. I want to keep building upon my skills and keep making content that I am happy with and that people want to read. I want to cultivate the community that I have here and I want to build my other sites too so they are like this one.

It has been so much fun looking back on how I have grown as a blogger and I love seeing people take their first steps as freelance bloggers too – I loved reading Claire’s post about her first three months as a freelance blogger.

If you are a blogger, how have you grown personally over the years?

I’m not a blogger but love following and reading blogs. Interesting to get other perspectives .

  2. Personal growth is so important, and it’s also good to see how you’ve grown and areas to improve on.

  3. Blogging is such a wonderful world and helped so many people like yourself to share thoughts and ideas. I love reading blogs as I learn so much from other people’s experiences

  4. I started my blog almost 10 years ago. I used to read loads of US blog but there weren’t that many UK blogs when I first started out. I was told that I needed to have a niche, but because I wrote about so many different things this was hard. I now class myself as a lifestyle and family blog.

I think I’ve grown a lot through the years. Like you, when I first started I blogged on and off and didn’t do it consistently. I have a bit more of a niche now (although it’s not super tight), but I’m happy with where I am at the moment x

  6. You’ ve come far in 10 years Bex. It’s amazing how blogging can be a viable income for people these days. You are a great VA and friend
