Over the years I have had many a different look on my website. I started off with the tacky glitzy flashy backgrounds that most people start their blogs with before taking more of an interest in the aesthetic of my blog and trying to make it look as sleek and professional as I possibly could without taking away any of its personality.
I currently run three sites – this one, my personal finance site (which has been woefully neglected and is in major need of a revamp in 2017) and my freelance work website and all are designed to be as personal to me as possible whilst also remaining professional. I’ve alternated between using free themes or paying for the odd redesign here and there for my sites in the almost six years since I’ve been running but now, even more so than ever, it is so important to have the perfect design for your site – you want to intrigue people, reel them in – and people often go by aesthetics. If your site isn’t pleasing to the eye, they won’t necessarily come back.
I’ve been considering making some changes in 2017 once I come back from my very short maternity leave – even though my sites may cover different topics, I am considering sorting out my branding so even though they offer different things, if you pop onto one of my sites, you know its mine. Whilst this blog would still remain lifestyle, the other personal finance and my work website all about work related stuff, its important to me that they all relate directly to me and what better way than to sort out my branding with fresh new similar (but not the same) web designs for them all. I’ve been taking a look at the Essex Web Design Studio who not only offer clean web design for multi national corporations, small businesses and start ups but also offer content marketing and SEO services. Their websites are clean, uncluttered and look great to the natural eye – see Jo’s blog here for example – and this is definitely something I will be looking for when attempting to sort my branding out.
