The past few days I have seen numerous posts in Facebook groups I am on from people worrying about stuff in their home. I’ve even heard someone worrying about the security of their home in my local village and the problems seem to be vast. Some people think they have a pest problem, others are worried about leaks, others worried about what they think might be faulty electrics. Most are doing something about it but it got me thinking – what exactly do we mean when we talk about keeping our home safe? Do we mean keeping it secure from burglars and thieves or is it all about keeping ourselves safe and protected from dangers – I would say it was a mix of both but what about you?
The people I’ve seen have called out different people to deal with their problems – the local council, pest controllers, plumbers and for the one with the possible faulty electrics, I know they searched for the best electricians in Essex to come and check for them – even if it turns out to be nothing of the sort, isn’t it better to be relieved of that worry and know for sure?
Its a while now since we had the leak that we had in the kitchen and I constantly worry about it happening again. I’m also so cluttered at the moment as I try to sort through all our old stuff and get it thrown away whilst also having to take in all the new stuff for the baby. I don’t like being cluttered and it makes me stress so I’m taking the steps tomorrow of going through a ton of it and making our house a safer and secure environment to live in – minimal possessions means less items to steal, less items to get damaged in the event of a leak or a fire, less items to get in my way at seven months pregnant (always a possibility!). Yes, lots of it will be going in the garage waiting for Steve’s next day off to go to the dump or the charity shop but at least then it is out of my house.
Only then will I feel totally safe in my own home. Seeing people post things like they have been on Facebook puts me on edge – especially at this time of year when all the dangers are rife – people steal because its coming up to Christmas, leaks happen more often because of the increased rainfall, people overload their electrics with all the festivities or people just clutter up their home with stuff they don’t necessarily need. I’m taking action to make my house a safer environment, what about you?
