Collaborative Post
During lockdown, I bet plenty of you have been looking around your home or your garden and seeing what you could do differently. If you are anything like me, you will have plenty of open spaces that are completely under utilised and could do with being revitalised or renovated into something new. There are numerous areas I believe could do with being updated or changed.
I know I have been looking around our new house and seeing where best we could capitalise on space. I’ve been thinking about the different things you can do to make those different areas of your house useful. Which are you most likely to try?
A Garage Extension
A garage extension may not be the first thing to come to mind but it is a great way to take use of under utilised space. If you have room, why wouldn’t you want an area that you could safely store your car and other items? Garages have so much use and plenty of space – enough for a car, tools and garden equipment. By adding a garage, you maximise the storage space you have on offer. The building costs for a garage are very reasonable too which makes it a great choice for a family home.
A Play Area For The Kids
If you have a young family, you will know that kids absolutely love being outside in the garden. Not everyone is blessed with a large garden but some people have large gardens and don’t know what to do with them nor how to maintain them properly. A great idea for gardens such as this is to make a specific play area for the kids. This will use up some of that space, leaving you less greenery to maintain and will provide them with hours of entertainment. You can add as much or as little play equipment as you like.

In the summer, we all love a BBQ or a few drinks with friends and family and nothing is better than being outside in the sunshine. A decent patio area would be perfect for such social situations and is a great way to make use of some surplus space you have on your property.
A Hot Tub
Perhaps a very luxurious option but hot tubs in peoples gardens are on the rise. All you will need is an area large enough to fit it and the means to fill it up and empty it and you’ll be good to go.
A Conservatory
Something I have always wanted is a conservatory. I love the idea of a room being off the main house and being able to sit out in it, looking out at the garden and watching the sun set. Conservatories make great play areas or reading nooks.
Have you ever made use of extra space in your home? What did you do? I’d love to hear from you in the comments below, especially if you have a super unique way of utilising that extra space!

My parents build a shed in their space in the garden. It’s not the most beautiful one but a lot of junk from inside the house is now stored in it
I have a small balcony that I am using more of. It’s hard living in a flat though.
