Just how well do you know your neighbours? We actually have a strange situation with ours. We live end terrace but the neighbour to the left only lives at her house in the summer and spends the rest of the year at her house in the US. We thus know her extremely well but we don’t get to know the people she rents out to that well at all as they are only here for a few months.
At my parents house and at Steve’s parents, we know all the neighbours – even the ones who live quite a few doors down the road. We both grew up in really community led areas and can’t walk around this village without bumping into 5-10 people that we know.
But just how well do you know your neighbours? Rattan Direct have recently created a survey asking just this question. It actually asks some interesting questions like would you trust your neighbour with your property if you went away and do you feel we talk less to our neighbours than we did 10 years ago? I’d love for you to fill the survey out so they can find out just what the UK thinks of neighbours.
I can honestly say that yes, I would trust the lady who owns the next door with our property just as she trusts us with hers if she goes for a weekend away over the summer. There is also a lady just across the road (actually in my great grandmother’s old house) who keeps an eye on our house when we go away and sorts our bins out for us. In regards to our parents, both sets could definitely say that they trusted their neighbours.
But how about you? Do you?
