We currently live in a rented property, but we are always thinking about the different things we would do to update it as there is plenty that could be done to bring this house into the 21st century. One of the rooms we would really love to renovate is our family bathroom. It really could do with some updating so here is what we would do to renovate our bathroom.
Change The Curtain
First things first, we would take out the existing curtain rail and get a new curtain too. The current curtain rail is rusted and needs replacing but we haven’t wanted to remove without permission from the landlord or letting agents.
Once we have replaced the curtain rail, we will need to buy a new shower curtain too – at the moment it is currently pinned away as the room is only used for baths and not showers due to the other bathrooms. But it would be nice to have the option to use it for a shower too.
Update The Tiles
We would definitely update the ceramic bathroom tiles. Ceramic tiles are the perfect choice for damp rooms such as bathrooms because they are hygienic and easy to clean as well as being chemical resistant, waterproof and steam-proof. Novoceram have some fantastic bathroom tiles in a variety of colours and effects, and these can be mixed and matched to fulfil any customer’s needs.
Change Some Of The Things Around
I would also change some of the things around in the bathroom too – currently the toilet roll holder is attached to the wall behind the door. The toilet is the other side of the room so as you can imagine, that isn’t in a very useful or easy to reach place. The shaving sockets are also on that wall behind the door, above a radiator and with no shelf in sight so you cannot actually plug anything into those sockets. I would move both of these to the other side of the room so they could actually be used.

Add Some Mirrors
There is a small mirror currently in the family bathroom, but I would certainly consider adding more mirrors to the room. Mirrors are renowned for making small rooms seem bigger, lighter and much more spacious, so why wouldn’t I want to add one? I found out recently that you can even get ones with heated pads behind them to avoid misting up after showers and baths – how cool is that?
Add More Ventilation
As it is a bathroom, it obviously already has some ventilation, but it isn’t the best. With many cases of damp being caused by condensation and with a bathroom being damp and steamy as default, it certainly needs an adequate ventilation system, and I would seek to upgrade ours to something better at an affordable price.
These are just a few of the ways I would change things up in our family bathroom. I don’t use it all that often as I have an en suite but it would be nice for the kids to have a nicer space to use. How would you renovate your bathroom?
