How To Travel On A Budget

Collaborative Post

I don’t know about you but I love to travel. However travel can be extremely expensive and when you are on a budget, that is just not something you can stretch to. That’s why when I travel, I am always looking to get a good deal – I want to be paying a fair price without having to compromise on the quality of my holiday and the good time I expect to have.

I wanted to share with you a few of my top tips for travelling on a budget, whether that is alone or in a group. Do you have any suggestions on how others can travel on a budget? I’d love to hear them!

Decide On Your Budget

The important thing to do is decide on a budget and make sure you actually keep to it! By choosing a budget, you will be more likely to stick to it and find things that you can do during that holiday or trip that will fit into that budget.

As long as you make your budget realistic, you shouldn’t have any trouble keeping to it.

Choose Cheap Journeys And Get The Best Deals

Now when I am travelling, I am more than happy to compromise on the travel there if it makes the whole experience there great. This is why I try to choose cheap airfares or other means of travel so I can put my money to better use elsewhere. I love to use websites that help me to book with businesses who offer affordable travel such as indigo airlines. Why spend so much money on the journey there when the best part of the holiday is when you are there, not how you get there?

Do Your Research

It is so important to do your research when it comes to travelling. The last thing you want to find is that you are on your travels and everything is a lot more expensive than you planned for – and that you do not have enough money!

Whilst doing your research, you should factor in not only the travel to and from your destination but also your accommodation and what you plan to do when you are there. You will also need to factor in food and drink too – have you chosen a deal which also includes all meals or is this something you will have to pay for when there?

Don’t forget the incidental costs of travel, too. Things like tourist taxes and other small expenses that are payable before or immediately after you arrive. You can usually pay these costs online, as in the case of the Bonaire tourism tax.

If you do your research before you go, you will find travelling on a budget is far easier. This leads me onto the next point…

Find Out Free Or Cheap Things You Can Do

You will be amazed when you find out all of the different free or cheap things you can do in your chosen destination. Many places such as museums are free or simply ask for a donation upon your visit. Obviously the more obscure the destination, the fewer things there might be to do which is why you should be doing your research as mentioned above.

It might even be worth getting some recommendations whilst you are there! The locals will often know some of the best places that tourists don’t actually know about.

Use Public Transport When You Are There

Whilst at your destination, try to utilise public transport where you can. It is such an affordable option and can be easily accessed. So many people look down upon it but it really is an affordable but helpful service. Why wouldn’t you want to take advantage of it?

Ensure You Have Travel Insurance

Yes I know what you are thinking – it might seem like an extra expense but should something happen whilst you are away, your budget will go straight out of the window if you don’t have it! It is a great comfort blanket to have to ensure you can travel happily and in peace.

These are just a few ways that you can travel on a budget. It can be tempting to spend a lot of money on travel but many of us don’t have plenty of excess money to do that – and why should we have to when we can travel in such an affordable way?
