Exercising is a fantastic way to keep your body healthy and your mind sharp. But let’s face it, there are times when maintaining stamina during a workout feels like an uphill battle. While yes it’s true that exercising itself can boost stamina, you might not always have the energy to go through it, right? Exercising isn’t meant to be easy, but it’s not meant to be hard either.

Well, it’s entirely understandable, plus it’s commendable that you want to just keep on going rather than just deal with the low energy and abruptly quit exercising for the day. Whether you’re running, cycling, lifting weights, or doing a home workout, staying energised and keeping your stamina up is crucial. But if exercising is meant to energise you, yet you need the energy to keep going, what can you do? Well, here’s what you need to know!

Are You Fueling Your Body the Right Way?

One of the most important aspects of maintaining stamina during exercise is proper nutrition. Yeah, yeah, this has been said so many times everywhere, but it’s still true. Your body needs the right fuel to keep going, and that means paying attention to what you eat before, during, and after your workouts.

So, with that said, before you exercise, you’ll need to aim for a balanced meal that includes carbohydrates, protein, and healthy fats, but some light snacks like a banana help, too. But that’s not quite it either, as staying hydrated is equally important. Dehydration can quickly sap your energy and reduce your stamina. Drink water throughout the day, and consider having an electrolyte drink during longer workouts to replenish the minerals lost through sweat.

It’s Okay to Get Extra Help

Other than drinking water, sports drinks (like Gatorade), and eating peanut butter with bananas, there are technically other ways you can get help with boosting your energy levels. One of the best examples out there would be pre-workout powders and drinks, as they’re intentionally meant to boost your energy pre-workout (just like in the name).

But that’s not the only option; you could look into supplements, too, such as Tongkat Ali, as this is a pretty common energy booster supplement used in Southeast Asia (particularly with men). But if you’re more comfortable with old-fashioned supplements, then you could consider caffeine pills, Vitamin B-12, or even iron supplements.

Pace Yourself

It’s easy to start a workout with lots of enthusiasm and burn out quickly. That mostly happens when you’re just starting out with a fitness regimen. So, to keep your stamina up, it’s important to pace yourself. Start your exercise session at a moderate intensity, gradually increasing the intensity as you go. This helps to conserve energy and allows you to sustain your workout for a longer period. Slow and steady is always going to win the race when it comes to this.

Are You Getting Enough Rest?

While this is obvious, it still deserves to have a light shine on it, rest and recovery are essential components of any fitness routine, especially when it comes to maintaining stamina. You have to keep in mind that overtraining can lead to fatigue, burnout, and even injury, all of which can significantly impact your ability to sustain energy during workouts.
