I’ve mentioned before that we live in rented accommodation. The plan was to move out to a larger place but we’ve made the decision to hang on here a little while longer and let our money grow a little more in our savings for our house deposit, rather than using a lot of it to rent another place whilst we get ourselves properly prepared to apply for a mortgage. The kids will be sharing a room – so we will be investing in some bunk beds but we are planning to get them from the local charity furniture store to maximise savings – and we will have to make do but that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of renovations we’d love to do if we could.
Tear Up The Carpets
I’m not adverse to carpets in a home but the ones we have are an awful colour and that hasn’t helped with two kids weaning, potty training etc as it stains so easily. I’ll be getting a Rug Doctor on it soon but I’d much rather tear it up if I could and replace it with wooden flooring.
Update The Staircase
The staircase is looking a little worse for wear so I’d love to make it look a little better. We have been thinking about a staircase renovation for a while – it is so grubby and needs a lick of paint at the best but a full renovation would be preferable to really make this home our own.
I’ve been taking a look at different staircases and perhaps some staircase refurbishment – mine has certainly seen better days and needs a revamp.
Our kitchen is super small – it is a galley kitchen and there is barely room to move. I’d love to knock the wall between the kitchen and the dining room through and make it all open plan, perhaps with a breakfast bar or something.
More Storage Is Always Good
One thing we do lack in is some proper good storage. We have a garage which is currently full of some bedroom furniture for when we move, some toys that the kids have grown out of and a few other things so there’s no more room there. However there isn’t much storage anywhere in the house at all, especially in the kitchen. I’m always moving things around to make sure there is space for different things. I’m currently trying to find a home for my Instant Pot as it is living on the kitchen counter at the moment. I’d love to make more storage in the house if there was a way!
These are just a few of the renovations we wish we could make if we had the chance. Are there any renovations you’d love to make to your house?
