Even when children are really little, they have some sort of idea what they want to be when they grow up. Jack has a handful of professions he wants to be at the moment – doctor, fireman, Spiderman, Batman, a dinosaur…
I know what you’re thinking – those last three aren’t really professions are they? But isn’t it wonderful how a toddlers mind works? How they believe in the impossible and can make magic really come alive?
Jack was recently sent an item from the House Of Fraser fancy dress & role play shop to enable him to live his future (and pretty much impossible) dreams now. He chose the dinosaur costume available here at House Of Fraser. Why? I don’t know. But who am I to try and work out what goes on in a toddlers mind?
When young, we always talk about wanting to grow up and what we would do. I was no different. I wanted to be an English teacher, an author, a journalist – well I am a blogger and freelance writer now so almost there! I wanted to be a criminologist, a fire officer, a teaching assistant. What I’m trying to say is that we all have these ideas when we’re younger, these dreams, these hopes and aspirations and these inevitably change. Sometimes we may circle back in some way to these dreams like I have – sometimes we may not.
Although sometimes children’s hopes and dreams can seem a little ‘out there’, why not let them enjoy their childhood and encourage them to pursue their passion, nurture their dreams and make them real. Sure, my son may want to be a superhero or a dinosaur right now – but he could be the next big thing in fighting crime or paleontology – who is to know? Helping them help themselves is such a positive thing and can be done through simple play techniques – so if my son wants to be a dinosaur, he can be a dinosaur. Who knows what his interest could lead to?
