This year will mark the first year of Father’s Day without my Dad. Determined not to dwell too much on it, I’ve been thinking of different ideas what the kids can get Steve. As per usual, I can guarantee that Jack will want to get him socks and probably a mug of some description. He also likes getting Steve something golf related as Steve really loves golf. Now that I’ve got to buy for Steve from Olivia, I’m stuck for what else to get him.
However something I have noticed over the past few years is that our gifts have become very samey. So this year I want to treat him and actually get him something a little different – perhaps a new watch or a brand new pair of trainers. He can be a tough person to buy for so it is difficult to know what he wants and what he needs. I know he would love a new laptop and he would love some fab new appliances for the kitchen but I don’t quite think my budget can stretch to those this year.
Steve used to have a really lovely watch that he wore all the time but unfortunately it broke and he never got round to buying himself another one. It would be nice to treat him to a new one so he actually has something to enable him to tell the time – he doesn’t always have his phone on him at work so a watch is pretty much essential.
If I wasn’t to get him a watch from the children, I’d probably go searching the internet for some books he is looking for. He’s been scouring charity shops to find them as they are so hard to find but has had no luck so far. I may have to go searching loads of different sites to get them for him from Jack and Olivia.
Choosing gifts has never been my forte and I’m glad Jack is at the age that he can actually decide what he wants to buy or make Steve for himself. Only problem is I now have to decide for Olivia too. I may just get Jack to choose a few joint presents and be done with it, haha! What do you think? Are you as rubbish at gift buying as I am or is it something you love to do and are great at?
