Getting Fit In 2020

This is a sponsored post.

Yep, I know. Everyone talks about getting fit as part of their New Year’s resolutions but how many actually keep to it? I know it has been on my New Year resolutions for years now – and I even popped it on my 2020 goals post. But this year I really do need to get fit. It was okay in recent years but now the weight has crept on and I am struggling to do things that I used to do without thinking with Jack such as charity races in the village. With the village Fun Run for charity in just a couple of months, I want to be much more fit, have lost the weight and not be out of breath after just a minute of running!

But what things do I need to consider?

Time

It goes without saying that life with two children is incredibly busy. Finding the time to fit in exercise around the kids and the other things life brings can be difficult but I need to stop making excuses and get stuff done. Whether it’s waking up half an hour earlier than everyone else to do a workout video on YouTube or head out for a jog or utilise the time Steve is at home to get some done, there is plenty of opportunity if I can be bothered.

Tracking

I’m one of those people that needs to see results. I carry my phone with me everywhere and it is always satisfying to see that I’ve met my 10,000 step goal but when it comes to exercise, I want a smartwatch that will tell me all the stats that I need to know. I’ve been researching them and have found the best watches for swimming which has helped me decide on what one I need.

What Activity To Choose?

It can be tough knowing what activity to choose. Everyone has that one activity that works best for them. Before I got pregnant with Olivia, I used to go running with friends and also used to play squash with one friend. We are quite lucky in our village that we have plenty of things to choose from – a running club, a tennis club, an active club and a small gym at our leisure centre – I believe it is Everyone Active. There’s plenty of support out there for me, whatever activity I choose – I just need to make the decision! Tennis is my first choice although I need to get all the kit such as tennis bags and a racquet!

Setting Goals

I mentioned above that I am all about the stats. This means I need to set myself some goals so that when I see results, I am motivated to carry on. Last time I properly decided to lose weight and get fit, it was so encouraging to see my weight loss written down each week and to take measurements to see how many inches I had lost. By knowing what I want to achieve, the motivation will hopefully stick and I will strive to keep hitting my goals and setting them higher and try to attain them once more.

This is my plan for getting fit in 2020 – I really do believe 2020 is my year. I’ll be talking more about my health and fitness journey in more detail in the next few weeks but I’d love to know how you plan to get fit in 2020?

  1. 2020 will be my year too! I’ve just bought a new fitness watch to help me keep track of everything. I bought ten Garmin Venu and it’s so pretty!

  2. I have tried everything over the years – running, cardio at the gym, weights, boxing… for me it just comes down to time and a distinct lack of it. I love following the Keto lifestyle as I do not feel as guilty if I am not particularly active one day – the one thing I always make time for though is a good walk!
The Fun Run will be awesome and is a great incentive to keep you going! Sim x

  3. I’m hoping 2020 will be my year to get fit too! I can feel it in my waters; move over Beyonce, I’m coming through, haha!

  4. Getting fit and being healthy is also on my resolution or goal list for 2020, my aim is to hit at least 10,000 steps a day and so far I have been good at keeping it, so good luck to you!

  5. Setting realistic goals is so important and not to overstretch yourself especially in the New Year when its hard to keep resolutions! Good luck on your fitness journey x

I need to get back into the habit of using the gym at work as I used to be so good but I got lazy and now with a wedding at some point I have more of a push x

  8. I”m just really looking forward to getting back to exercising after being unable to with a tricky pregnancy. I’m really looking forward to long dog walks, swimming, and getting back to yoga that isn’t just gentle stretching.

I’ve been working on walking the kids to and back from school. It helps boost my daily step count. I’m also squeezing in power walks where I have the time.

  10. Good luck with achieving your fitness goals this year. I am a bit like you in that I need to be able to track everything and see results. I love my fitbit for that!

  11. The start of a new year always feels like the perfect time to implement some life changes, for the first time ever I am doing a fitness challenge and tracking on the phone as I go.

  12. Swimming, walking and cycling are always my go to activities and I have started well

  13. A New Year can be a great time to motivate a new fitness plan. As yet I haven’t even considered it, simply because the year started off in a muddle for me. When I find my feet, hopefully I can focus a bit better. I’d really like to get back to yoga again.

  14. I am definitely hoping this year is going to be the year I get into shape and feel a lot better about myself
