Us parents are always busy, right? I know I am – it seems I am in a never ending whirlwind of school runs, clubs for both kids, work and chores. There seems to be no rest for the wicked and I bet I am not the only parent who wishes they could free up some time, either to get some time to themselves or to spend more of it with their children. Here are some ideas on how you too can free up some time as a busy parent.
Delegate
I don’t know about you but it often feels all the chores fall down to me and they never seem to end. If it isn’t washing up or putting the clean washing out on airers, it is putting out the recycling, cleaning the bathroom or hoovering the floors. It seems like a neverending cycle and I can’t be the only one sick of it, can I?
The saying goes that ‘many hands make light work‘ and this definitely seems to be true. I get the kids to help me here and there when I am doing these things just to shave a little time off how long the tasks take. I might ask Jack to help me hang the washing or bring the recycling out to me at the bins. Even those little extra snippets of time that I gain back and which are probably only a few seconds at a time are soooo satisfying.
Consider Professionals
I hate doing chores – I know I’m not alone even if there are people out there who love doing their own. Something I have been considering more and more recently is hiring professionals to help me. I absolutely despise cleaning but do it because it is a necessary evil – we have a wide selection of wonderful cleaners in our village so I am considering hiring one to do the job I hate. That time I would usually spend cleaning myself can be better spent working – earning enough to pay the cleaner’s fees and beyond!
Something else I have been considering hiring professionals for is the washing. Washing all our clothes is the bane of my life. Jack does two after school clubs, Cubs and a Friday night club so he’s always got a mountain of stuff going in as he just can’t keep clean, Olivia does clubs too and always comes home filthy, then you’ve got Steve’s work clothes (and a manual job so easily dirty!) to consider and that’s before I’ve even mentioned Jack’s school uniform or everyone’s everyday clothes!
I’ve been considering a home pickup laundry service such as Laundryheap to help me – a 24 hour laundry service such as this would be so valuable and free up so much time! They offer same day collection and delivery within 24 hours which is fantastic and they have won many awards for their service. Why wouldn’t I want to use them?
Prioritise
All the things we do as a parent are important but sometimes you simply have to prioritise. Focus on the more important things such as feeding, clothing and bathing your children – the housework and other stuff can be left for another day – just enjoy spending time with your family or by yourself where you can get it.
If this was helpful to you, here are some other ways to break up with being excessively busy.
How do you make time as a busy parent?

I only wish I could delegate! Unfortunately as a single mum there isn’t really anyone to delegate too 🙁 As I type this my washing machine is on, the chores are never finished at all. I set myself some work goals to start the year with and also started some household goals too… decorating will always be at the end of the list! 😉
As for how I make time? I seriously don’t! I am forever juggling 10 things at once, the Xmas break was lovely, but I was seriously itching to get back into our routine again! Sim x
So important to prioritise when it comes to family. We all get so consumed with everyday chores that we forget that family time is so important and the cleaning can wait.
One of my friends just had a baby and she doesn’t seem to have much time to spend with her friends anymore. I know it’s still too early for her to spend some time away from her baby but I’ll still share your tips so she can free up some time in future.
I’m not a parent but spare time is never a bad thing so I’ll totally be taking these tips on board. Especially to delegate chores to the professional services!
I’m not a parent but spare time is never a bad thing so I’ll totally be taking these tips on board – thank you. I especially love the tip to delegate chores to the professional services!
It must be so tough to be able to do everything when you have kids, I struggle without them! I think it’s important to feel like you can ask for help and not feel like you need to do everything yourself x
We all have busy lifes and to hire specialist to do our laundry is really a good idea. We can spend that time with our family and friends.
I hate doing chores as well, even if I don’t have children. This is why I don’t mind putting some budget aside for a cleaning lady to come once every two weeks and do a deep cleaning of my house.
I would love to get a cleaner as not only would they do a better job than me, but would also be far more efficient than me too.
I struggle, I do think if I had the money to I would hire help. I am currently trying to keep my eyes open and still have the washing to put out.
It can be busy juggling busy family life as a parent and agree that delegating and prioritising can be helpful. I’m considering hiring professionals such as cleaners to hekp.
So many good tips there, even though I don’t have children I’ll take them on board.

I delegate the kids chores to do now they are a bit older, it certainly helps, although it is not always to my standards LOL
When I wash and dry all our clothes I make everyone put their own clothes away. Just doing little things like this saves me a little bit of time
Life is already a struggle but when you have kids, it becomes a little harder. Those are some great tips to keep in mind.
