Have A Fun Half Term at Brewers Fayre

With half term quickly approaching, it can be hard to find activities to keep your child entertained all week, especially if going out for a meal as a family. Brewers Fayre have just the thing in mind – a well deserved rest for the parents and some fun activities for the children.

This half term, children can expect to enjoy soft play if visiting one of the Play at Brewers Fayre sites, their recently refurbished Beano sites. For time at the table, children are given a special half term Beano activity pack with colouring pages and puzzles. They even leave with a Beano balloon – and we all know how much children love balloons! There will even be fun discos on both Friday 19th and Saturday 20th February at selected Brewers Fayres. The Toddlers disco will run from 9.30am – 3pm while the Kids will run from 3.30- 7.30pm at a cost of £3 per child.*

We were asked to visit a local Brewers Fayre to try out the half term activities and sample the food they had to offer. There is an extensive Daytime menu available and the Chef’s Counter in the evenings offers a wide variety of choice – be sure to visit on the evening of your favourite dish.  Steve is quite excited to visit for Pizza Parlour one day!

We visited on Monday lunchtime at 2pm after Jack had finished nursery. We are quite far from a Play at Brewers Fayre site so we visited our local Brewers Fayre, the Rising Sun in Watford. Upon arrival, we were seated promptly by a friendly member of staff who ensured we were comfortable and knew where we needed to go to order. They brought over a Beano activity pack straight away which Jack was straight into – he is big into colouring at the moment so the large Dennis The Menace picture was an instant hit.

We ordered from the Menacing Meals (children’s) menu for Jack, getting him three courses for £4.99. I think this is an incredible price for three courses as usually you would expect to pay much more for a child. For just £6.46, Jack had his starter of GRRRRRlic bread, main of The Big Bad Dog, chips and beans and a Chocolate Indulgence Sundae with a Fruit Shoot to drink. He can be very fussy with his eating and can get quite restless if sitting in one place for too long but with the mix of activity sheets and good food, he was more than happy to sit there the whole time and ate every bite of his food!

I mentioned in a previous post how much I love the Daytime Value menu at Brewers Fayre. Offering 2 starters for £2.50, 2 mains for £10.99 and.or 2 desserts for £2.50, they offer a wide range within the menu but you are more than welcome to choose from the main menu too. On a previous visit, we opted to stay on the Daytime Saver Menu throughout but this time we mixed it up a little, trying our starters and desserts from the main menu. Of course, if you aren’t picking two items from the Value menu it will work out a little more expensive but the prices are still just as affordable and let’s face it, the Daytime Value menu prices are astounding!

For my starter, I chose the tomato soup. I love tomato soup and I wasn’t disappointed. Served with a slice of ciabatta bread and some butter, this was just what I needed to start the meal off. Steve opted for the loaded nachos as they are a treat he doesn’t get to have very often. He was quite impressed although the gooey cheese wasn’t very… gooey.

For our mains, we chose to order from the 2 for £10.99 menu although Steve did opt for the New Yorker burger for an extra 99p – then asked them to add an extra burger from the main menu for £1.49 and then asked if he could change the chips for mash as he isn’t a big chips fan but loves burgers. He is really fussy but the team were more than happy to accommodate this which I was really impressed by. Sometimes restaurants aren’t very happy if you make a lot of changes but the team at the Rising Sun were more than happy to assist us.

I chose the red pepper, cheese and caramelised onion quiche. It isn’t something I would ever have thought to order before I started Slimming World but after seeing the picture on the menu, I couldn’t resist and it was just as delicious as it looked! I will definitely be trying items on menus in the future that I would never have thought to try before after this success!

Our desserts we picked from the main menu with me going for my old favourite lemon meringue pie and Steve choosing the treacle tart. You can’t really go wrong with desserts and these were just as delicious as expected!

We will definitely be taking Jack during half term to visit one of our local Brewers Fayres as we are always left impressed by the standards they hold themselves up to. The restaurant gets top marks from us for cleanliness – not a dirty plate or crumb on the floor in sight; the staff were attentive and friendly throughout – two of the waitresses made a special point of interacting with Jack and getting him involved which I loved and the whole atmosphere was generally a friendly, welcoming one.

Brewers Fayre are certainly great for family fun at mealtimes and I can’t wait to visit again.
