If you want to make your wedding awesome and unique, you need to break with tradition. These days, there are so many options about how to get married, there’s no need to fall into the same cookie cutter routine. Instead, you can make a few choices that will ensure your wedding is remembered. So, what traditions are we talking about here and why should you forget them?
The Proposal
Typically, the proposal is always handled by the man, but why not be different. You could if you are dating someone who is open to new ideas propose to him. Take control, be romantic and you declare your love on one knee instead. Of course, there’s a stigma attached to this idea. Either, the man is seen as weak or the girl is seen as a little over eager. But this is just sexism at its worst, and it’s time to shake up the game a little. At the very least, you could choose your engagement ring. I know that some girls will be with guys who haven’t the faintest idea what a beautiful ring looks like. Don’t forget this is the ring you’re going to be wearing for the rest of your life. So, you do want it to be stunning. You can even find custom engagement rings online that look absolutely incredible.
The Venue
Who says you need to get married in a church? No one that’s who and there are plenty of other options to consider here. I particularly love the possibility of a beach wedding. Just imagine the sun setting on the horizon as the ocean lights up. You get to say I do on a warm tropical beach and your reception can be a party with fire lighting up the sky. You know you want this or something similar so forget about the traditional church your parents want. Instead be bold, be different and make your ceremony exciting.
The Vows
How about having someone say dearly beloved who actually does love you? It’s tradition to get married by a priest or a vicar. But if you’re not religious, then you’ll probably have a random member of the state standing before you. It’s boring, it’s pointless, and it’s a missed opportunity. You can get a friend or family member ordained, and they can do it instead. It makes your wedding just a tad more special, and it is certain to be memorable.
You can also write your own vows rather than say the traditional declarations. Lots of people do this these days, and it makes the ceremony far more special. It also ensures that the vows actually have meaning rather than just being a legal declaration.
The Music
Last but not least, I can’t be the only one who thinks that the wedding march is outdated. Instead, pick your own melody that’s meaningful to you. I’m sure there are quite a few girls who would love their favorite song to be the music that they walk down the aisle with. Well, this can be arranged, and it will certainly make your ceremony stand out.
