With lockdown here once again, we are all having to find things to do that don’t require going out except for essentials, exercise and school. Daddy can’t go and play golf and we can’t go out for meals so we’ve been doing more things at home like movie nights, gaming nights and one of the kid’s favourites, playing board games.
We were recently sent some games from SpinMaster and we’d love to share our thoughts with you today!
Grouch Couch
This game is the ultimate in fun for the kids. Have you ever wondered what happens to those little items that go missing? You know, those little bits and pieces that slip down the side of the sofa – never to be seen again until you move the sofa properly and find a whole collection there??
Well Grouch Couch may just give you some of those things back by spitting out Lost Goodies.
The game comes with 1 Grouch Couch, 16 Treats, 15 Lost Goodies, 1 Die and Instructions. It is for 2-4 players and requires 3xAAA batteries which are not included.
Players have to take it turn to feed Grouch Couch some tasty treats (the die decides how many to feed him). They then press the remote control and see what happens. He groans, growls and gobbles, he chomps and burps and hopefully he will eat your treats. If and when he does, he will spit out Lost Goodies. The player with the most Lost Goodies at the end when Grouch Couch plays his victory song wins! There is even the chance to take extra Lost Goodies off other players if you roll the hoover!
The game is incredibly fast paced and the kids loved it – they shrieked with excitement everytime Grouch Couch ate the treats and spat them out a Lost Goodie! This has provided hours of fun thus far and I can see it being played over and over again!
Jack came out of our game on top which Olivia was not happy about – she was leading for most of the time until Jack had some lucky rolls of the die, getting the hoover! It is such a lot of fun for the whole family.

Hedbanz
This is a game that the kids have been playing, even without me! Olivia is a little young for this and doesn’t quite get the concept but it doesn’t stop her from getting involved and playing, haha!
The game comes with 6 headbands, 13 scoring badges, 69 picture cards, 3 sample question cards (for if you get stuck with what to ask), 1 time and instructions.
On your turn, you flip over the timer and start asking yes or no questions to figure out the card shown on your headband. It might seem simple but it really isn’t. For 2-6 players, it is fun and fast-paced and everyone can get involved. I’d say players need to be a little older than Olivia (who is almost 4) to really understand the concept as she liked looking at her picture rather than guessing and telling everyone what they had so they had to choose a new card, haha!
The first to three scoring badges wins! We had a lot of fun with this and played it a few times over as the kids enjoyed it so much! The game is available at Smyths for £9.99 and online at Amazon {affiliate link}.
Beat The Parents
Finally, we were sent Beat The Parents. This is a game for 2 or more players (at least one parent and one child) and contains 1 game board, 110 question cards, 50 challenge cards, 2 movers and an instruction sheet.
I pride myself on my general knowledge but I must admit that we did find some of the questions tricky – but I think that is a good thing as there wouldn’t really be a game or any fun if we all knew the answers to all of the questions! Adults have to try answering the kids questions and vice versa!
This is a truly fun filled trivia game for the whole family and we loved the challenges that we came across as we moved across the games board.
Some of the challenges include flying paper aeroplanes and having a staring contest – and let me just say that Jack is much better at challenges than I am!
Jack absolutely annihilated me at the game and we even tried asking him the kids questions and me the adults..he still completely beat me and won all the challenges! This will be a game we pull out time and time again though as it is so much fun.

Hedbanz is my kinda game! I like games that are pure fun and require little in the way of brain power! Something simple, where you can be really silly

We have the Hedbanz game and The Beat The Parents game too. But don’t have the Grouch Couch yet, may have to get that one for Christmas time
