When I was younger, the Christmas gifts I usually asked for were fashion or beauty based. As I’ve got older, I’ve tended to ask for more practical items – a new camera to help me with work, a Kindle, a Fitbit. I recently got myself an Instant Pot and was thinking – what other kitchen items do I need?
Step forward the De Buyer Non-Stick Frying Pan. Perhaps not something people would generally think to add to their Christmas list but something that is ever so practical. My frying pans are starting show their age – they are showing wear and tear and the non-stick is no more. Everything seems to be getting stuck to them which makes washing them up a hassle too.
I was recently sent this frying pan from the De Buyer range and I’m here to tell you more about it. It retails at £32 and is 28cm. I use frying pans a lot so I needed something up to the job. The pan is ideal for both gentle cooking and reheating and actually has a ‘lyonnaise’ profile – do you know what this means? I didn’t until this pan turned up – it means that there are no straight sharp edges around the rim so you can easily slide the food onto the plate.
The pan is coated with 5 layers of PFAO-free, PTFE non-stick Choc 5 which is actually De Buyer’s most durable non-stick coating designed for heavy professional use. They do advise not to use metal utensils with the pan.
So what do I think? Does it live up to expectations and can it stand the test of time with my cooking?
The pan is quite lovely to look at – a nice colour and a long handle which is great when cooking – I hate pans with short handles. I thought I’d test out the non-stick with one of my favourite things to cook – marinated chicken. I dipped the chicken in some powder before adding some Frylight and adding to the pan.
I did notice that little bits of the chicken stuck to the sides as I took the chicken out but it was simple enough to wipe them clean off, showing that the non-stick truly does its job properly – nothing stays stuck on!
The food itself cooked quickly and evenly – much unlike my other pans where some of it cooks way quickly than the other bits – which can be so frustrating!
Washing up the pan was pretty easy – it all washed away really easily and left no residue. The water also pooled away and the pan was almost dry before I even got a tea towel to it!
Overall, I am very impressed with the pan and I will certainly be looking to add more from the De Buyer range to my kitchen. There’s nothing quite like new kitchen tools to make you feel like a success in the kitchen and as I’ve got older, I seem to much prefer home items for my Christmas and birthday gifts.
How about you?

I love de buyer frying pans. I had one for years until it went missing. I need to get another one, they are amongst the best ones I’ve used. Cast iron skillets are my other favourite
The non stick pan sounds like a useful gift for anyone that enjoys cooking. It’s great it was easy to clean after use. I do worry about that when I’m cooking.
I am just like you too and as I’ve gotten older presents have been more practical. Next Christmas I’m sure will be even more so as we’ll have moved into a house by then and I’m sure we’ll be missing lots of things x
Practical presents are definitely a favourite of mine and I am in desperate need of some new pans . These look fab!
This would be a great gift for me for example! 🙂
This would be a great gift for me for example – but I’m sure any foodie would like this!
To some a practical gift might sound boring but actually they are something we tend to need or want so I’d be perfectly happy receiving one
This sounds like a great frying pan, I could really do with a new one.
