We’ve all felt that mid-morning crash between meals where our stomachs start to grumble and our energy slumps. Instead of reaching for the nearest sugary treat that really won’t do anything to subdue the hunger, you should opt for a high-protein snack that can help keep you satisfied, focused and energised for much longer. Below are some easy-to-make, high-protein, nutrient-dense snack ideas to fuel you throughout your day.

Meat-Based Snacks

Most people want easy-to-grab snacks they can eat on the go quickly without disrupting their day. That often ends up with grabbing something sugary that just won’t deliver the satisfaction and provide the energy they need for the day. You just haven’t found the right snack for you!

Meat-based snacks can be equally as easy to eat. Take biltong, for example, it comes in packets just like a lot of carby snacks, so it’s easy to get out and eat on the go or decant into a smaller pot if you so wish. Not only are you getting an easy-to-eat snack, but a whole lot of protein, which will keep you full for much longer.

Dairy Bites To Eat

Swap out your usual diet of cereal and instead start making yourself a bowl of Greek yoghurt. With around the same amount of calories (depending on the amount), you’ll be getting significantly more protein, around 14-16g per 150 grams. Plus, you can top it with plenty of exciting and tasty toppings like fruit, nuts and even peanut butter for even more protein. If that seems a little inconvenient, then you could still buy individual yoghurts to take with you to eat on the go.

Cheese also makes a great, simple, high-protein bite to eat. You can get pre-cut sticks of cheese, which make great little nibbles you can reach for when your stomach starts to growl, but will help prevent that feeling for much longer than your standard go-to snacks.

Plant Protein Alternatives

If you’re veggie or vegan, you might feel that you can’t get quick, easy, high-protein snacks and just have to stick with the useless sugary ones, but you’d very much be mistaken. Some of the best high-protein snacks are actually vegan anyway. Edamame makes an incredible snack. 100 grams gives you around 12g of protein and should easily fill you up between meals. Top it with a bit of salt and chilli flakes, and you’ve got yourself a delicious, healthy treat.

Nuts like almonds are also super easy and quick snacks you can have on the go. Just weigh them out and pop them in a tub, and you’re good to go. They don’t provide quite as much protein as edamame, but they’re a lot easier to carry around and go about your day, still remaining energised and full.

Making the right snack choices can make such a big difference in how you’re feeling throughout your day. Choosing snacks that have higher protein will help to keep your stomach full for longer and also help you to feel more energised and productive, ready to take on whatever the day brings.
