BEDM #17: Favourite Decade

After seeing this prompt, I had to visit Beth’s blog before writing my post as I could guess that her choice of decade would be the same.. Even though Beth states she doesn’t have a favourite decade, she took a Buzzfeed test and got the same result as me…

I will admit it though, the 90s were my favourite decade. I was born right at the beginning of the decade in January 1990 so I remember quite a bit of it. I can remember exactly where I was when Princess Diana died, I remember Take That splitting up, I remember Robbie starting his solo career. Who can forget when the Spice Girls burst on to the scene (I so wanted to be Sporty Spice!) or when Dolly the sheep was introduced as the first clone? I even remember the whole Bill Clinton/Monica Lewinsky scandal…although I do find myself wondering how I came to learn about that at such a young age…Haha!

What I loved about growing up in the 90s though was that somehow it seemed more innocent than growing up in this day and age. I’m only 24 but the way I see some children act and behave is appalling and I certainly don’t remember kids acting that way when I was their age! I was sports mad – I played netball, rounders and basketball in primary school and even did football training early on a Saturday morning! What sports did I play when I got to secondary school? None. Nada. Zilch. The 90’s seemed more carefree, more relaxed somehow and I found it funny when going through stuff at my parents house recently.

I found my Beanie Babies, my Tazos, my Polly Pockets, my Pokemon cards – even my Puppy In My Pocket toys if anyone remembers them? I even found Kerplunk which I think everybody owned back then! People complain about the nostalgia people seem to have for the 90s but I love it – everything seemed so much simpler then…perhaps because I didn’t have to face all these adult problems, eh?

What is your favourite decade?

  1. Oh my GOD I had about 100 Beanie Babies!! They'd be worth something if I didn't have a phase of 'Like I care about value' and ripped all the tags off. I also used to go to meet ups to do swaps of Tazos! I can't believe I forgot these things! xx

  2. What about tamagochis , furbies, barbie dolls, esmeralda dolls and polly pocket.
