BEDM #10 – Advice

I’m not good at giving advice; heck, I am not even that good at taking advice but when I found I couldn’t stick to the prompt for #BEDM and lacked inspiration for a post of my own, Nic suggested a piece of advice for others and I thought that was a great idea for a post.

What advice would I give to anyone – of any gender, race or age? My advice is actually quite simple – stick at what you love and it’s fine if you realise something isn’t for you anymore. I mentioned in another post this week that writing is something I always wanted to do as a career and I am finally here, 6 years after finishing Sixth Form doing what I originally set out to do. I thought I’d fallen out of love with it but in reality, it was the gap year that got me – a year out from education made me question what I was doing and why I was doing it. Do I have regrets? Well, I try to live without regrets but of course I do – I could have got here a lot quicker if I had stuck at it but then I also realise that if I had continued on that path, I would never have met Steve or had Jack – and that is unthinkable!

I suppose if I had to put it in simple terms – I am saying stick at what you love and achieve the best you can achieve but it is okay to quit if you no longer love what you are doing – no one wants to be miserable.

What advice do you have for others?
